A Homeschooling curriculum incorporates more subjects compared to public schools curricula. It has been stated that colleges preferably looking to recruiting home educated students. Public schools curricula are taught by certified educated instructors. Public school curricula also offer sports programs, and art and music programs, but public school curricula are chosen based upon his or her area instead of their choice. Classes are taught at a mid-learning level, which can cause an advanced learner to become bored and loose interest in learning.
Charter Schools: A Better Choice for Parents The recent growth of Charter schools in America is a welcome change for many parents who want choice in education. Students and families are recognizing the real benefits Charter schools have to offer. Parents want schools that are safe, cultivate a positive attitude about learning, and best fit their children’s abilities and interests (Richwine & Heritage 2010). Charter schools are a better option than public schools because charter schools offer smaller classes, the faculty has the ability to use experimentation with different teaching methods and parents are able to be more involved in the school as a whole. Smaller class sizes are not only beneficial to students but to teachers as well.
Pupil Teachers Were older than monitors therefore more experienced. They were pupils by night but teachers by day. To maximise their performance they were examined therefore their quality of teaching was better. Also actual teachers planned pupil teachers lessons for them, however, as pupil teachers gained knowledge of the lessons, they began to understand the lessons they taught. Pupil Teachers had smaller classes which enabled them to teach better.
These skills will be very useful as children grow and develop in their personal and professional lives. Through divorce and a blended family, children can learn to be more self-reliant. Because of work schedules, school functions and extracurricular activities, parents my rely more on the children to take more responsibility for things around the house. There is also the potential to learn to do less with more. With prior financial obligations and the possibility of more children in the home, many blended families don’t have the financial freedom that a lot of natural families have.
An advantage of a comprehensive school is that they are often the closest school to where students live and some comprehensives get very good exam results. Another type of school that a child can go to is a private school. A private school is a school supported by a private organisation or private individuals rather than by the state. Attending a private school may improve your results because overall you get a better education and this can help with possible jobs in the future. A disadvantage of going to a private school might be that sometimes students are isolated from other social challenges.
This does not mean that parents have no rights to what happens to their child while they are at school but this allows school to guide student behaviors though discipline. This idea is called in loco parentis (pg. 378). This concept was once more important in schools than it is now but it has brought forth it idea that no matter the student, disabled or not, there needs to be a certain level of responsibility put on all students for their behaviors when they are at school. This would be a great chapter of the book for parents to read because it would help them to understand why the school is doing what it is doing.
Money should not have the control over the type of learning ability to be gained. Where is the proof that these ‘specialised’ teachers employed in the ‘private’ schools are the most intelligent people around? Children that attend fee paying schools can achieve better grades because the classes are usually smaller and they are usually given more attention by the teachers compared to the larger classes in state schools. However most pupils in all systems of education can achieve top grades when taught by any good teacher. Fortunately not all the best teachers work in private education.
As schools are judged on their percentage of A*-C grades teachers will focus on the ‘achieving’ group of middle class students and will not waste their time helping the ‘hopeless’ group of working class students. This means that whilst the middle class students will be pushed to achieve the top grades, the working class will be left and will underachieve. Another marketisation policy introduced was parentocracy; which literally means ruled by parents. This meant that parents could choose which schools their children went to, which lead to the successful schools will become oversubscribed and many of the failing schools being forced to close. This may mean that the house prices surrounding area (catchment) of the successful schools will increase, as middle class parents move in to try to get their child into the school.
If a child is home schooled or attends public school, there are challenges as well as opportunities for students to succeed. One big difference between home and public school education is the social environment. Home schooling may cause a child to be introverted, quiet, and reserved due to a limited number of classmates and having their parents as their teacher. In contrast, a student that is attending public school might be very outgoing, interactive, and social with others. Public school students have diverse classmates and they have many other teachers.
That knowledge maybe helps us when we grow up and start working in our society. But, between two ideas, things learned in school or through life experiences, I think things learned through life experiences are more important to a person’s education, because beside what we learned in schools, there are also a lot of things we can learn outside our schools. First of all, we are just taught by our teachers and sometime by our friends at schools. Depend on teachers’ knowledge and the ways they teach in classes, the knowledge and information we input can be changed. Good teachers certainly have good teaching methods, but in a small space like school, those teachers are limited and what we can learn from them is few and limited too.
