Describe ways in which discrimination may deliberately or inadvertently occur in the work setting. Discrimination deliberately or inadvertenly could occur when someone someone could ignore a colleague, because they are discriminating them purposely, they come from a different area/class/culture/religion etc or they may not actually have anything to do with them because they feel they have nothing in common with them.
Unit 203 Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s setting Outcome 1 Understand the Importance of Equality and Inclusion 1.1 Diversity is about acknowledging and respecting an individuals differences, diversity recognises that although people have things in common with each other, every individual is also different in many ways, Diversity consists of many factors. Equality means to treat everyone equally in a way that is appropriate to their needs. Discrimination is the prejudicial treatment of an individual based on their membership in a certain group or category. Inclusion is seen as a universal human right and aims at embracing all people irrespective of race, gender, disability, medical or other needs. It is about giving equal access and opportunities and getting rid of discrimination and intolerance.
These are both acts that includes service users, and employees or service providers. If these Acts are implemented in the work place, then diversity is respected through the equal treatment of individuals, and so discrimination is then eliminated. All the acts relate to inclusion. This is because each act includes equality, like the Equality Act 2006, and various types of discrimination (such as the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, Race Relations Act 1976 etc..) that could lead to not including an individual based upon who they
Equality is about fostering and promoting the right to be different, to be free from discrimination, and to have choice and dignity and to be valued as an individual, with the right to your own beliefs and values. Health and social care services should meet the needs of people from all backgrounds. You should not be treated less favourably than anyone else because of your beliefs or your religion or because of any other characteristics you may poses. Equal opportunity is about addressing representation and balance, but is a term used in workplaces to describe the measures taken by organisations to ensure fairness between staff and patients. It means treating people as individuals, with different skills and abilities, without making judgment based on stereotypes.

Good luck First of all I will explain definitions, then move onto legislation & codes of practice: Diversity is all about difference, and its value is the quality and variety that different people bring to society.Examples of how people differ from one another, it can be through: Appearance, abiltity, race, gender, culture, talent and beliefs. Equality is about everybody being equal to one another, but not necessarily treating them all the same.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion DIVERSITY Diversity literally means difference. Diversity recognises that though people have things in common with each other, they are also different and unique in many ways. Diversity is about recognising and valuing those differences. Diversity therefore consists of visible and non-visible factors, which include personal characteristics such as background, culture, personality and work-style in addition to the characteristics that are protected under discrimination legislation in terms of race, disability, gender, religion and belief, sexual orientation and age. By recognising and understanding our individual differences and embracing them, and moving beyond simple tolerance, we can create a productive environment in which everybody feels valued.
Recognising diversity means responding positively to the differences and valuing all people. Equality Equality means ensuring that everyone has a chance to take part in society on an equal basis and to be treated appropriately regardless of their gender, race, disability, age, language, social origin, religious beliefs and other personal attributes. Equality does not mean to treat everyone the same, but to treat them according to their needs or preferences. Inclusion Inclusion is to ensure that every child, young person, adult or learner is given equal opportunity to access education and care by meeting his or her specific needs. It is the process of identifying, understanding and breaking down barriers to participation and belonging.
1.2) Direct discrimination in the work setting could be where someone is refused a job because they are in a wheelchair or because of their race or religion. Indirect discrimination in a work setting could be where a person could be told they have the job but they can only work on the bottom floor as there is no lift. 1.3) Practises that support diversity, equality and inclusion can reduce the likelihood of discrimination. By getting to know people from diverse backgrounds and ethnicity helps remove negative stereotypes. The problem that some people observe is that practices that cross over the line to provide preferential status to protected groups can result in less qualified people getting jobs and actually reinforcing negative stereotypes when compared to people who are fully qualified.
Equality Equality is when everyone is regarded as the same regardless of individual factors; equality protects people from being discriminated against for being ‘different’. Discrimination in equality can happen in relation to a person’s race, sex, health, religion, family, age, politics, disability, culture, sexual orientation or beliefs. Equality is about a society that is fair where there is massive potential and opportunity. Equality isn’t about having the same income, the same size house or the same amount of wealth; it is about treating people fairly because not everyone can be extremely successful. Diversity Diversity is the ability to accept and respect an individual regardless of who they are and what influences their lives.
This can help the person to feel valued and not set apart from others, this in turn will reduce any discrimination.
