Causes: Box A: She boasts about her beauty: “When I was fair and young, then favor graced me.” Box B: With her pride in hand, she chooses to deny others the right to court her: “Go, go, go, seek some other where, importune me no more.” Effects: Box C: While she was so sure of her beauty, Venus’ son challenged her pride: “You dainty dame, for that you be so coy, I will so pluck your plumes as you shall say no more.” Box D: He then teased her with her own proud phrase: “Go, go, go, seek some other where, importune me no more.” Box E: After hearing him mock her pride, she is embarrassed and her pride is hurt: “As soon as he had said, such change grew in my breast, That neither night nor day I could take any rest. Wherefore I did repent that I had said before: Go, go, go, seek some other where, importune me no more.” Part 2 As I read the passage, it very clearly narrates how the queen considered herself so beautiful that anyone who came to court her was not good enough for her.
