Previous Experience of Language Learning

I am an Indian. My first language (mother tongue) is Bengali. As I was sent to english medium school, I had no other options but to take up English as my first language, though it's a foreign language to me. All subjects , except second language ( Bengali) and third language (Hindi ) were taught in English . Even then I used to find it extremely difficult to write an eessay or paragraph in English . Even after studying in an English medium school, where the mode of communication should only be English, we used to secretly speak in Bengali with our friends. One day, I heard one of our friends, who was a rank holder in our class, requesting our class teacher to allow us to speak in Bengali as we were on picnic. The reason she gave would take anybody aback. She said that she can express her emotions better in Bengali than in English. This had happened only because no one in school taught us language in a way, that would really draw our interest. This even continued in high school and even in college as I opted for engineering and not language. During my working period in one of the renowned MNC in Delhi, I really learnt the correct pronunciation, word syllables and intonation. This was the period when I really felt the urge to learn the various technicalities of this language. Over the years, I studied, listened to, had communicated with the native speakers to make my understandings better. More I study about this language more it generates passion within me to learn about English language. This passion within me has inculcated the strong inclination towards undergoing various training programme to teach English to the second language speakers.
