Elba Gomez Mr. Raider ESL 55 05/28/12 Preventing Juvenile Delinquency Juvenile delinquency affects everyone in society, but there are some ways to prevent this social problem. It is true that the government and community can take some actions toward this social problem, but also every single individual can contribute; maybe these individual actions are the ones that might have a more significant impact on youths’ and kids’ lives. First, the government can provide more police presence with better training, which will result in safer communities, more suitable for raising kids in. Also keep investing in education, public parks, and sport centers for youths could additionally be a good way to keep them busy, off of the streets late at night and out of trouble. For instance, YMCA has been, for decades, an alternative to crime for young people. This institution offers young people an alternative that is attractive for them, such as sports ………… Indeed, it would be very difficult for a government to run a country without society’s participation. Moreover, it is not only society’s right, but also its responsibility to pressure authorities to use taxpayers’ dollars properly and invest it in young people’s education. Also as a society, individuals can organize and run programs like YMCA, for example, which has always had community back up. Second, conferences for youths can be organized as well, focusing on making them realize that juvenile delinquency is a major social problem, putting them in the path to success. Conferences for parents can be also organized, with the sole purpose of teaching them how to raise their children; In fact, it would be almost impossible without parents’ participation and children’s education starts with them, at their homes.
