Dear ______, I know that you and your family are strong advocates for the presidential candidate Mitt Romney, but as Election Day approaches I would like to help you reevaluate your impending decision. Governor Romney has a vision for the future of America that is not right for it’s people. Governor Romney’s plan for America is taking the nation in a completely different direction from what is necessary for our economy to again become the dominating force in the world. Romney made a claim about balancing the US budget on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sept. 9th, saying: “We’ve put together a plan that lays out how we get to a balanced budget within eight to 10 years.” The plan, however, is vague at best. When the policy director of the Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan group, Josh Gordon was asked about this plan there wasn’t much of a proposal from Romney. But his main takeaway, he said, is that “it’s an unrealistic goal and requires cuts far beyond what they’ve been able to specify.” This alone should raise a red flag, because Governor Romney is making promises, which are simply impossible to keep without devastating budget cuts across the nation. Many of the budget cuts promised by Romney are geared towards the poor. He plans to cut $1.4 trillion from Medicaid, which the Urban Institute estimates would leave 30 million people without health insurance. He also plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act, stripping 15 million Americans of their health insurance. As if that isn’t bad enough, he will cut $134 billion from the food stamp program, kicking 9 million people off of the program that supplies them with food. To sum this up, during his time as president he will leave 45 million people without health insurance and 9 million to starve. Mitt Romney envisions a nation where everyone shares his values.
