Dear President of School Board, “Hey look, you have a friend request from Arnold Hue.” This is just one quote that many Facebook users say. But one thing you might not know is that Arnold Hue can be anyone in the world impersonating the real Arnold Hue. Social networking websites lead to nothing but trouble and that’s why they should be banned from the school district. There are many reasons that prove social networking should be banned but three main purposes are cyber bullying, impersonating ID’s, and students will spend more time on homework if social networking is banned. Around 51% of Americans have social networking accounts. The first reason why social networking websites should be banned is because of cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is when a child, preteen or teen is threatened, harassed, humiliated or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones. This is a very important problem because over 40% of students reported to be bullied the past year. For example, there are 2 boys; the victim’s name is Harold and the bully’s name is John. Over Facebook, John keeps harassing Harold’s wall by saying your ugly and no one likes you. This would be considered as cyber bullying. The second reason why social networking websites should be banned is because grades will increase. An average student spends 1 hour and 29 minutes a day on social networking websites. So if these websites get banned, then students will receive 1 hour and 29 minutes more to study and do homework. The predicted grade average will rise by over 39 %. That could change a failing grade to a passing grade. For example, most students say they don’t have enough time to do their homework but if social networking sites get banned, then that will no longer be an excuse.
