English 1 M, W 3-4:15 3/2/2009 I did prompt # 2 Describe how all of the above can influence prescribed identity and argue which has the biggest influence on prescribed identity and why. Are You a Judger? In today’s society, we are influenced by multiple things including our immediate surroundings and relationships with other people. But more often then not, personal choices play a big part in our influence and culture’s identity are our biggest influence. In a world of the human race, every person culture is different. Whether it is that you’re Asian, Australian, German, English, Russian or Native American; everybody has there own Identity that is unique. Your personal choice is also your identity. However, this can prescribe an unwanted identity that others in a sense balloon over your head and judge you. For example, a culture discrimination or racism if you will; in a European background, people may prescribe that they do not wear deodorant and therefore have really bad body odor. That the French do not brush there teeth resulting in horrible looking teeth or that all black people like watermelon and chicken, that all Asian people are smart. All are examples of how someone may prescribe an unwanted identity to a particular race. Personal choices reflect the person’s personality. You may have seen someone who is at young age who had decided to dye there hair or wear an outrageous types of clothing. Well, a lot of people are in the same boat sort of speaking. Some may want to tie-dye there hair to express how they feel or other may want to dye it green to represent there school spirit. However, when they walk into a store, for example Bel-Air the grocery store and co., they are immediately judged for how they look by the older crowd in the store.
