Music videos have contributed to the depiction as well. Violence has been greatly impacted on the black community. From rappers glorifying time served in jail or surviving several bullet wounds, today’s black community believes this is a way of life for some. The black man has decided to trade college for the
People judge other people due to their dress, their skin color, the way they talk, their hair style or the music they listen to and gather these individuals into a view called a stereotype. People who differ from the majority in any given society are deemed different and are viewed that way by the majority of a society. Labeling Theory deals with this notion of stereotypes as it relates to a societies definition of deviance. "Deviance is not a quality of the act the person commits, but rather a consequence of the application by others of rules and sanctions to an offender. The deviant is one to whom that label has successfully been applied; deviant behavior is behavior that people so label."
He said God wanted him to settle situations by holy wars. John Browns goal in life was to set enslaved slaves free. When he was little he saw black kids his age getting whipped for little things. He did not like this at all. People would say that he was insane because he tried to help African American escape to their freedom.
THE CONTROVERSY OF MALCOLM X Ever since he first appeared as a spokesperson for the Nation of Islam, Malcolm X has raised many controversies. His revolutionary speeches influenced many disadvantaged black people. However, he was also severely criticized for his demands for total separation between blacks and whites in America. In his speeches, he often referred to the whites as the "devils". In his view, the white race in general was guilty for the suppression and sufferings of the black race.
The passivity of Black people allowed racism to flourish. While Black’s practiced the religion that had been forced upon their ancestors, the descendants of the owners of their ancestors continued to abuse them. White men rapped Afrika, pillaging the culture, enslaving the people and conditioning us to forget. Joe is the epitome of the negative affects of an Afrikan trying to assimilate to a white world. He wanted so bad to be seen as different, as unlike his Afrika embracing mother as he could.
In America, African Americans have always been stereotyped as more inclined to engage in criminal activities. The image depicted is that of African Americans wearing a facemask with only eye and mouth opening with guns strapped inside their leather jackets or tight jeans. The stereotypes have therefore painted a grossly incorrect picture of African American men as violent, aggressive monsters who rob and rape carelessly. As a result, innocent African American youth have wrongly been prosecuted and sentenced to capital punishment even when they are innocent. In stereotyping the African American men as criminals who derive pleasure from inflicting pain on other members of the society, especially the white people, the stereotype has been grossly unfair.
But they were black.". By constantly trying to live off of hustling, Malcolm saw just how bad the situation was for his fellow African Americans. He experienced it first hand, how people can act like animals or savages, trying to take advantage of whatever they can take advantage for legally or illegally, and how people can resort to these acts due to the lack of opportunities that they should have. But Malcolm would not realize the importance of this part of his life until later
Why do people label and group other people? We label and group other people in order to give them a distinct identity in the society we are in. I believe we label them or mentally sort them into a certain group so that we know how to act around them. It's something most people do automatically to simplify their social interactions. Labeling and grouping other people usually only becomes a problem when we label and group someone incorrectly in a negative manner, which is what most of us associate stereotypes with.
HistorySlavery was an institution that victimized as well as other cultures due to being in a controlled environment. Every suffered in their own way due to racial prejudice and fear of growing numbers. Masters which were also called Slave "owners" believed that treating another human being of another color like an animal was right. The children of the slave owners were being victimized as well due to following what their parent’s doings were right in treating another human being in such a manner. Slavery was so victimized that it still affects the society to the extent that black people blame the whites , and white people still agree that black people need to be slaves.
