Two Lesson Approaches for Teaching the Bible (MWGYW and HBLT) DSMN 601 LUO (Spring 2012) Ministry of Teaching Instructor: Brad Reynolds Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary Homer Edwards (ID# L24414690) March 3rd, 2013 Teaching is a challenging attempt, but it is also a blessing being able to able to teach a lesson based around scripture. It was an opportunity to do just that, using two different approaches to teach. One based on a model from Andy Stanley's book Communication for a Change and the other from Gary Bredfeldt and Lawrence O. Richards called Creative Bible Teaching. I learned different techniques from the these approaches. The approach from the Creative Bible Teaching book called the “Hook, Book, Look, Took” was the first approach I had used in teaching a passage from the Bible.

Even though forgiveness is a part of the Church in that it is expressed in God's Word, social scientists such as Smedes (1984) and Worthington and DiBlasio (1990) explored the topic even more in the recent years. Enright's process model and Worthington's REACH model also emphasize forgiveness. Enright's process model delivers us four stages of forgiveness: uncovering anger, deciding to forgive, working on forgiveness, and the outcome. It has been discovered that this roadmap to forgiveness actually helps in the psychological healing of the victim. Worthington's model adds to this theory by proposing that a supportive environment helps provide empathy for the offender, in which empathy is the key to forgiving.

From this sourcebook, I was able grasp the importance of 3rd and 4th century church fathers to sound doctrine and Christian thought. Spiritual leaders should reflect a life of correct living and Godly lifestyle to be to be a worthy candidate as mentor and a example to other disciples Smither’s work is an excellent tool for undergraduate and graduate seminary students studying church history, historical theology, and mentoring concepts for
In particular, when speaking of Spies, the lines are not as clear as they do not accept the tenets of Christianity but see activities such as prayer or forgiveness as useful to the secular world. Because of this area of debate, the idea of absolutes is not possible. Without absolutes, how can we actually give someone guidance on how and where to go in their lives? Without a spiritual path that is laid out and definite, where does someone with a troubled soul go? I am grateful for the door that the book opens by illustrating how the two worlds of psychology and Christianity can be married yet as in any marriage, there is always areas that are not
2) Discipleship Counseling Through the use of personal and professional experiences, Dr. Neil T. Anderson (2003) lays the foundation for future counselors to use as a guide to reach mentally ill individuals in his book Discipleship Counseling (Anderson, 2003). This instructional piece gives current and future counselors the instruction and information needed to reach out and counsel the spiritually oppressed. Anderson (2003) breaks this piece of literature down into three main focuses: defining and understanding mental health; counseling the spiritually oppressed; overcoming false guidance, deception, bitterness and rebellion—and helping others experience freedom in Christ. Discipleship Counseling also gives the reader a better understanding of how discipleship counseling works and shows them the basis of
Religion and Spirituality: Synthesis Joetta Willis Northcentral University A strong area of interest for me is the incorporation of religion/spirituality into mental health treatment. As a licensed psychotherapist, it is my desire to provide the most efficacious treatment possible for my clients. As a practicing Christian, I am cognizant of the significance of religious spirituality in the lives of many Americans. “Despite the diversity of religious beliefs and traditions in the United States, one fact is difficult to overlook: individuals in this country are religious”, (Weisman de Mamani, Tuchman and Duarte, 2010, p. 348). There is a growing interest in this topic, and therefore, sufficient research has been conducted and literature is available.
