The Roles and Ways of Knowing for a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Through the practice of scholarship, theories, models and conceptual frameworks the Advanced Practice Nurse integrates clinical knowledge into evidence based practice. Healthcare reform has created a need for the advanced educated nurse at the Bachelor through Doctorate degree level. The nurse practitioner has become the norm in healthcare settings and is found in every specialty along the lifespan. Educational and clinical requirements defined by the APN Consensus Statement sets the standard for entry into clinical practice. According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Position Statement on Defining Scholarship for the Discipline of Nursing (1999), the APN/DNP’s role of scholarship serves to benefit nursing research, teaching, education, and the practice of nursing itself.
I will further discuss key concepts of the theory, uses of the concepts, cases, and finally apply a graphic model of the theory as well as modifications to the model for use in my personal practice. Theory Summary Major Concepts In Patricia Benner’s theory of skill acquisition she adapted the Dreyfus model of skill acquisition to nursing practice and clinical knowledge development.
As an instructor one must also be able to combine their clinical abilities with the following teaching skills: designing curricula; developing courses/ programs of study; teaching/ guiding learners; evaluating learning; documenting the outcomes of education process; facilitate learning, advocate the development of professionalization of future nurses, and design appropriate learning experiences ("NLN," 2002). Nursing Theory Grid Camille Delos Santos NUR/403 December 20, 2011 Nursing Theorist Grid Use grid below to complete the Week 4-Nursing Theorists assignment. Please see the “Nursing Theorists’ Grading Criteria” document, located on the Materials page of the student Web site. Name: Camille Delos Santos Theorist Selected: Ida Jean Orlando Description of Theory: Ida Orlando’s “Deliberative Nursing Process Theory focuses on the interaction between the nurse and patient, perception validation, and the use of the nursing process to produce positive outcomes or patient improvement”(Faust, 2002, para. 1). It is a process that involves nurse-patient collaboration where in the nurse’s intervention “depends upon the patient’s active involvement in determining both the cause of the distress and also an action which may reduce the distress”(Potter & Bockenhauer, 2000, para.
Comparison Question number One The comparison of two nursing positions is a BSN prepared ICU staff nurse and an ICU nurse educator with the education preparation in MSN in Nurse Education. Both nurses are required to have a nursing license for the state they work in in order to be employed as a nurse. Other certifications that are required in order for nurses to care for patients in the surgical intensive care unit (SICU) are: Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (BLS/ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC). These licenses and certifications are required whether a nurse has an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). On any nursing unit, both of these RNs are able to care for patients, go over patient, family, and discharge teaching, and be in charge of other nurses.
The research question for our quantitative article is: Which characteristics of clinical instructors in nurse anesthetist programs are effective in creating a successful nurse anesthetist program and what is the congruence of these characteristics when compared between CRNAs and SRNAs? The research problem is that the focus of a student registered nurse anesthetist’s (SRNA) education is in the clinical arena. Interaction among clinical preceptors while observing and participating in patient cases allows the student to grow into their professional role while acquiring professional and personal skills. Attitudes and values that are essential to entering the health care field are also developed during this time. The effectiveness of clinical instructors is pivotal in many ways to the quality of education a SRNA receives in the clinical setting.
Blooms Research and Response Jennifer Crane NUR/427 June 24th, 2013 Gina Stephens Blooms Research and Response Blooms Taxonomy of Education is a communication between caregivers for patient education and related issues to patient care. The research done by Bloom is a valuable tool for Nurses to communicate with staff members and their patients. There are three domains involved with taxonomy: Cognitive, Affective, and Psychomotor. Each of these domains measure the level of understanding achieved. In this paper will teach how learn how Bloom’s Taxonomy applies in a case study, how it is a benefit to nursing instructions and will describe each domain.
Assessment and Care Delivery This essay will attempt to discuss the nursing care and assessment of a patient in the hospital setting by the student nurse and to show how a holistic approach to the assessment was used and the importance of this. The model utilised for the holistic assessment will be the Roper, Logan and Tierney ‘Activities of daily living’ Model (appendix 1). Furthermore, there will be an analysis of one of the assessment tools used for this assessment. In order for the student nurse to identify and more importantly prioritise the care of the patient, a holistic approach to the assessment was required. The word ‘holistic’ originates from the Greek word ‘holos’ which means ‘whole’.

MENTORSHIP IN PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE The aim of this essay is to demonstrate author’s role as a mentor in organising, managing and leading programmes of learning and critically reflect and evaluate own performance while working with a student in clinical setting. Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2006) defines the term ‘mentor’ as the role of a registered nurse who facilitates learning and supervises and assesses students in the practice. Furthermore, NMC also identifies eight domains and standards that must be achieved to become a mentor. In this assignment, author will be referring to those Standards to Support Learning and Assessment in Practice. First of all author will look at the personal and professional reasons to undertake this module.
