Strain theory is as sociologic theory that tries to explain why people commit crimes. It explains the likely hood of delinquency in two parts one is the addition of strain in a persons life and the second portion is the persons coping mechanisms to combat the strain that they experience. Another large part of strain theory explains how people measure the positive and negative things that will happen whenever they commit any crime or delinquent act. We know that juveniles are involved in more crime than adults and we can also use strain theory to help explain why this is happening. Being a juvenile comes with many different strains that most adults do not have to face as well as having far less consequence in many cases is they do something wrong or make a mistake.
Crime rates among those living in poverty are far higher than any other socioeconomic class. Aside from attempting to compensate for their financial shortcomings, there are many other reasons people may resort to crime. Living on such a tight budget can often cause stressors in peoples lives. This comes from feelings of inadequacy, despair, hopelessness, and maybe even the feeling that a person is not providing well enough for his or her family. Crime in poor neighborhoods is often perpetuated by the neighborhood itself.
Although the act of negative criminal behavior from one individual to another such as rape and sexual assault is indeed underreported, there are also other crimes unreported. These may include larceny, property crimes as well as other crimes that may backlash toward the individual reporting a crime. Reasons many may feel hesitant to report these crimes include the fear of becoming arrested. This would produce effects of retribution, community service, criminal record, family awareness as well as money difficulties. Another crime that goes unreported is crimes that are unseen.
Most of the crimes done by the poor people are by necessity as a study shows that people who were given the choice of moving into a lower poverty neighborhood didn’t do as much crime as the people who stayed in the higher poverty neighborhood. Other factors that contribute to people committing crimes do to poverty are those who get addicted to drugs to vanish somewhat you can say of the hunger they have but can’t satisfy. Violence is seen in the way of when they decided to rob a store or a house the owners get tired of it and decide to either close down or sale the house. Which makes it even harder for the people that does have money to buy and as a consequence makes the poor people in desperation rebel against the government and start causing disasters in their cities or villages to get the governments attention because they feel they were left down. The world is falling short in its promise and commitment to ensure that every child enjoys a safe and nurturing
