P2- Potential effects of life factors and life events on the development of an individual. Genetic Asthma-Adolescence Asthma could affect Kate physically because she might not be able to exercise as much and do activities that involve a lot of exercise because of her getting out of breath and having to take breaks to prevent an asthma attack. Asthma could affect Kate intellectually because she could miss out on important learning if she is at doctors’ appointments or if she has an asthma attack and has to leave school, and she could miss out on important information that could affect her grades in the future. Asthma could affect Kate emotionally because asthma may make Kate feel like she isn’t good enough or that she is too unfit so she could give up on exercise or anything that gets her asthma going. Asthma could affect Kate socially because she may not get to see her friends as much as she would like because of activities that involve exercise such as swimming.
Disabilities in a child can cause a development delay. Their disability may affect one area of development delay which in turn can affect another area, meaning that overall development cannot occur. This can lead to low self-esteem and self worth. Genetic inheritance is what triggers a disability, such as Down’s syndrome. This means that they may have an impairment of cognitive ability and physical growth so they will need extra support in daily activities.
Children’s belief may cause them emotional conflict when they want to participate in some physical activities which go against their family’s wishes or religious beliefs. Whereas other theorists have argued that is is the way we are brought up and influenced by our surroundings that makes an individual the way they are. Nature means the genetic and biological influences that affect our growth and development. The nature side of the debate believes that it is inherited factors which have more impact on your life and development. For example, the colour or type of your hair, your eye colour, the pigmentation of your skin, and also genetic diseases such as cystic fibrosis are all the result of the genes we inherit. These biological factors are said to determine an individual’s development and characteristics .
Many people argue that development is vital in the younger years in the child’s life, and the ability to solve problems and apply ideas help in the long-term. Hyman argues that the lower classes create a self imposed barrier to learning their values. This is because he believes that they have a low value on education, with a ‘play safe’ culture and also a low level of self belief. This would all impact on the child performance at school as they would not have the attitude needed to progress. If at any point they failed, they would see this as a big mistake and give up and have a lack of motivation.
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease that causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It can affect the sinuses and breathing which can cause a big impact on life. It can affect a person’s intellectual growth as they may be in and out of doctors or hospitals for checkups. Also it can affect them physically as their motor skills and co ordination aren’t as good. They can be affected in emotional development due to bullying at school assuming they are tried out in a school rather than a disabilities school.
There are 5 main personal factors that can influence a child’s development, these are:- Health If a child is in poor health then this will have an impact on their development. For example, a child with uncontrolled asthma or cystic fibrosis may not be able to run around and be as active as their peers. Therefore, this would mean that his physical development might not be the same. Not being able to play outside would almost certainly affect the social development, as children make many friendships on the playground and at after school clubs. Disability A child in a wheelchair or with a serious physical impairment would find it hard to do many activities, particularity those that are physically demanding.
This is an example of how nutritional health can affect mental health. Proper nutrition can also affect adult’s and children’s safety. When proper nutrition is not received children and adults are more prone to catch illnesses. They may also not have energy to function properly and could risk physical injury when doing a strenuous
An easy solution for this would be to take off gym as a class that counts against a students G.P.A, but many schools and universities do not agree to this. (News Hour) Some children are not as athletic as others when it comes to sports or to other things they have to participate in gym class. This can cause a student with a 4.0 G.P.A to lose points. These students don’t deserve to have points taken away from them just because of their physical characteristics. When things like this happen, parents also get involved, which cause more problems.
