Often, the term post colonialism is taken literally, to mean the period of time after colonialism. This however is problematic because the ‘once-colonized world’ is full of “contradictions, of half-finished processes, of confusions, of hybridity and whatnot because of colonialism; therefore, Post colonialism is rather a continuation of colonialism through different or new relationships (between the east and west) concerning power and production of knowledge. 1/ HOW WERE COLONIAL POWERS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROLE OVER A LARGE PORTION OF THE NONE WESTERN WORLD? Historically, the English and the French are the most important in terms of imperialism and colonialism, Not only militarily, but also ideologically. Hence, the strategy used by these powers to gain control of large portions of the none-western world was to understand the natives, so that they could conquer and subdue them easier. For example, Edward Said identifies Napoleon’s 1798 conquest of Egypt as a new kind of imperial and colonial conquest because when Napoleon invaded this country ,not only did he go with an army, but also a huge number of scientists, architects , biologists , Historians etc.. whose job was to study Egypt from every aspect to produce a survey that was designed not for the Egyptians but for the Europeans. As we know, these colonial powers had a long standing relationship and imperial role in places like India or countries in North Africa like Algeria or Morocco. So, of course a considerable amount of traces has been left. 2/ WHAT TRACES HAVE BEEN LEFT BY COLONIAL EDUCATION IN POST-COLONIAL SOCIETIES AND HOW DO THESE TRACES AFFECT DECISIONS ABOUT DEVELOPMENT AND MODERNIZATION IN POST-COLONIAL COUNTRIES.
