To most Americans who can remember exactly what they were doing on September 11, 2001 it feels as if it happened just last week, when in fact ten years has passed since the tragic even. Many still fear another major terrorist attack and some even fear the Muslim sitting next to them. One example of the uncertainty that has arisen as a result of 9/11 is all of the security measures that have been implemented. The department of Homeland Security was created as a direct result of 9/11 to fight terrorism. Controversial acts were passed in an effort to control terrorism, the Patriot Act.
In retaliation to these attacks that Al Qaeda carried out, U.S forces carried out air strikes on targets in Sudan and Afghanistan with success but did not achieve the ultimate goal of killing Osama in one of these attacks. Still though, that did not stop Osama from planning and carrying out more attacks. In October of 2000, Al Qaeda operatives bombed the USS Cole which was ported in Yemen at the time killing seventeen service members. This was the first time that Al Qaeda successfully carried out a terrorist attack on a U.S vessel. The attacks on September 11, 2001 is a day that many Americans will never forget as the
On October 12, 2000 the USS Cole was attacked by suicide terrorist of Al Qaeda killing American sailors and injuring others. Again, this should have placed more efforts from all parties regarding prevention of terrorist attacks, but it didn’t
If the government feels the need to track every citizen does that mean there looking at all of us as possible terrorist? Technology provides the government with both public and private information. This is a dysfunction created by the United States which is the spying on American citizens. Although some may feel it’s a violation there are some situations that violate no one’s rights. Police are able to use technology freely in public spaces, in which people have no expectation of privacy.
Deneice Collins Instructor Williams English 1010 11 October 2012 Rhetorical Analysis of “President George W. Bush speech on the 9-11 attack On September 11, 2001 President Bush “Address to the Nation on 9-11-01” spoke on the series of deadly terrorist acts that took thousands of lives. In Bush’s view, “these acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat”. However, they failed because according to Bush we have the strongest country in the world. I feel no one deserved to go through such a lost. The anger the terrorist had against America is unethical.
Bush had an extremely high approval rating. On October 7, 2001, a Fox News/Gallup poll asked, “Do you approve or disapprove of the job George W. Bush is doing as president?” more than eighty percent of those polled said they approved the Presidents job. It is important to note that on October 7 President Bush, “In response to the 9/11 attacks…declares a ‘War on Terror’, and identifies Osama Bin Laden’s al-Qaeda network responsible for the 9/11 attacks. A U.S-led coalition launches air strikes against targets in Afghanistan, where Bin Laden is being sheltered by the Taliban regime.” At the start of the “War on Terror” the American people showed strong support for the president and his
Revision of Explosion and Bomb Investigation Handbook: A Guide for Explosion and Bombing Scene Investigation CRM 342: Evidence Collection and Preservation Professor Sammie Taylor October 7, 2012 By: Richard Harris, Miranda Brown, Justin Blue In June 2000, the National Institute of Justice released a Guide “produced with the dedicated and enthusiastic participation of the seasoned professionals who served on the Technical Working Group for Bomb Scene Investigation”, according to Janet Reno the attorney general at that time. The Guide, titled A Guide for Explosion and Bombing Scene Investigation, discusses standard operating procedures (SOP) in seven sections to support law enforce departments faced with these criminal acts. It touches on prioritizing initial response efforts in not great detail or explanation for a first responding officer. The role of a first responder on any explosion
Terrorism and Policing Abstract The response to devastation shaped by the September 11th attacks established the need for planning and leadership before, during, and following times of crisis. Boundless finger-pointing and lying of blame occurred pertaining to the delayed arrival of help to the suffering individuals of the event. Many would say that those experts and the government’s engineers must carry out an evacuation plan and permit infrastructure funding. Law enforcement administrators currently have changed the nature of policing and security efforts in the United States. One cannot fathom how the incident of September 11, 2001, caused change and increased the public’s fears and concerns regarding security and the methods of technology necessary for safeguarding the United States.
"I see the nose of the plane clearly entering the frame of one video and the tail of the plane entering the Pentagon in the other video." Many conspiracy Web sites have posted the video loops and report the films are inconclusive or were manipulated by the government. "Some folks will never be convinced," Fitton said. "But I'm hoping that these videos will dissuade reasonable people from falling into a trap with these conspiracy theories." University of Florida law professor Mark Fenster, author of the book "Conspiracy Theories: Secrecy and Power in American Culture," said the poll's findings reflect public anger at the unpopular Iraq war, realization that Saddam Hussein did not have weapons of mass destruction and growing doubts of the veracity of the Bush administration.
September 11th, 2001 In my perspective, what happened on September 11th, 2001, was an act of terrorism on the United States. It was a decade ago that 19 terrorists took control of four planes, flew two into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, hit the Pentagon with a third, and crashed the fourth in a field in Pennsylvania after passengers resisted and made it impossible for the terrorists to complete their mission. The government also thought that 9/11 was an act of terrorism put on by the Muslims. While conspiracy theorists have a different perspective because they believe that there was more to this attack, it was plotted out and people from America were in on it. There have been many different perspectives on what really happened on this day.
