As many people would recognize, there is a rising obesity problem in America and there are many influences that could contribute to this. Fast food is not the healthiest choice but, they should not be to blame for making children obese. In David Zinczenko’s “Don’t Blame the Eater” he talks about how the obese population is blaming fast food companies for their health situations. He begins his argument with what he observes as a ridiculous headline, which is that kids are suing McDonalds for being fat. David starts by teasing these overweight individuals that are bring a lawsuit against McDonalds, but then later admits that he used to be overweight as a child and was able to change his life around.
Fast food consumption is continuing to completely destroy the nation’s economy and spread disease-causing bacteria all over the world. So the next time someone goes to reach for that cheap and greasy cheeseburger, they should ask themselves this; is a mere six-hundred calorie meal more valuable than preserving the country for future
Food is very addictive just as cigarettes, alcohol and marijuana. We live in an environment of toxic food. Our schools vending machines are overflowing with cookies, candies, cakes and sodas. Our favorite restaurants do not provide us with a clear and concise label on what we are eating. Obviously our kids are becoming overweight with all of the unhealthy choices they have to choose from.
By constantly seeing women who are rail thin, and women who are pictured as being caught in the moment with aggressive men, the misconception is forced into our minds. "It is estimated that 8 million Americans have an eating disorder – seven million women and one million men." (this information is from the 2006 South Carolina Department of Mental Health statistics) There is no doubt that the media's portrayal of woman directly effected this information. Not only is the high rates of eating disorders in women the fault of the advertisements that we see on a regular basis, but so are the high rates of violence towards woman. When young impressionable boys see these movies where a man pushes a women, slaps a women, or forces a women to kiss him; it gives them the perception that this is acceptable, that if a boy kiss us long enough against our will that we will soon give in to his desires.
Interestingly, even Katniss who had seen the Hunger Games many times on television seemed to be appalled by the preposterous looks of the Capital's people, with few exceptions. Even during the actual games, Katniss was forced to wear a costume. Is it possible that our world could head into the Capital’s state? Perhaps it’s already on its way. Our world is filled with not only the immense amount of makeup and clothing, but tanning and plastic surgery as well, which could very well compare to Panem’s dying of the
Ridiculous television statistics, youth corruption, and the need for “TV Turnoff Week” prove that television is an evil. Americans waste too many hours watching television. Trubey states that the average American youth spends one thousand five hundred hours
Pondering on my thoughts, I came to the conclusion that some of this has to be because of the fact that the cafeteria serves unhealthy food for the students. Another factor is that the cafeteria is set up in a way to be a buffet. This makes people go back for seconds, thirds, and even sometimes fourths. This is an astonishing fact that the food served could be processed deep fat fried chicken or even just plain old burgers. The fact of the matter is that this becomes a daunting way of how people become overweight.
The more a certain food is processed, the more mal nourished it becomes and, in turn, the more unhealthy it is. The problem with the American population is our eating habits have become accustom to these fatty, salty, and sugary items and it is why we crave and enjoy them. From the farm to the grocery store, the processing of food diminishes its nutritional value to nothing, sabotaging the American diet so far in diet related disease and obesity, our nation has become a slave to chemically altered foods.
Americans have adopted horrible eating habits, with a variety of factors influencing our food choices. Highly palatable, “brown” food, has overrun our food options and become highly accessible. Furthermore, studies have shown that fast food and processed food is just as addictive as heroin, as it inhibits our dopamine receptors in the same way cocaine or heroin does, over-stimulating
People can tease the obese making them feel unwanted and emotionally upset. They also can be different in physical ways. It is more difficult for them in sports and other daily physical activities. This is what obesity causes and, why it should be fixed in America. In conclusion, if Illegal immigrants, Welfare fraud, and Obesity were fixed in the United States of America it would make it a wonderful place for everyone to live in, because those are some major problems that America is facing at this
