Reflection on “The Positive and Negative Effects of Social Networking” by Valerie Tandoi In the article “The Positive and Negative Effects of Social Networking” written by Valerie Tandoi (2010), the writer illustrates her viewpoints concerning this issue: as to the pros, social networking is beneficial to business and publication promotion, while it may cause some potential harm, such as health loss, privacy intrusion, and degradation of life quality. And as far as I am concerned, I am in favor of the fact that the positive effects of social networking outweigh its negative effects. Social networking, first of all, is able to help and boost small business in a tremendous way, together with making the worlds of promotion and publication on an equal playing field (Tandoi, 2010, para 2 & 4). The role of so-called traditional mediums, such as print magazines ads and radio commercials, has been increasingly replaced by Facebook groups, promotions on Twitter, and the like, because of the consideration regarding cost and marketing prospects. I do personally agree with this. Nowadays, social networking enables people to build a network of contacts and interact with a lot of people at the same time. We can spread our thoughts and interests to a large number of people; the social networking sites also facilitate us to procure information on any subjects from anywhere, from which it’s easier and faster for us to collect the information. In other words, for me, a student living abroad, the best advantage of social networking sites is to allow me to keep in touch with my friends, classmates, and relatives. Such an effective, economical way it is to keep in touch with people; geographical locations are no barrier any more. By allowing me to send and receive messages, upload photos and videos, these sites are very interactive among me and my relatives. And for people running for
