Many banks and financial institutions began collapsing which led to irretrievable, uninsured deposits and savings. Fearing further loss, people began spending less which led to a decrease in production and an increase in unemployment. As companies began to fail, the government devised the Smoot-Hawley Tariff in order to protect American businesses. The Tariff placed high taxes on imports leading to a decline in international trade.
Almost one-third of adults in the U.S. are obese, and more than two-thirds of adults are overweight. Obesity rates have increased by 214 percent between 1950 and 2000(Livestrong.com). Also According to livestrong.com, the main cause for the increase it weight among American’s is lack of exercise, as well as the convenience of fast food, and caloric increase. This rise in obesity has increased diseases such as heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. As a country, we are spending over $190 billion a year treating these diseases, diseases that could be prevented by increasing exercise and decreasing calories.
Children now spend more than seven and a half hours a day in front of a screen. This surprised me because I thought it would be more hours.my brother spends a lot more than 7 in front of a screen. Reducing the sodium Americans eat by 1,200mg per day on could save up to $20 billion a year in medical costs. This surprised me because I did not know people ate that much salt. Firstly, the Everglades are an important ecosystem which reduces flooding and replenish aquifers but human actions are having a huge impact on the landscape. According to Everglades.org, they’ve “contributed to nearly 70 percent of extinctions in the United States” and are the “primary cause of species endangerment.” The water itself is a major cause of decline to the area, firstly because of poor water management leading to water levels being too low or too high at the wrong times has caused a decline in many species.

Better policing can also be attributed to the decline in crime rates as evidence of the growing prison population. The Great Depression was a severe period of poverty and tragedy. It effected many other countries not just America; especially in Europe, where many countries had not fully recovered from the aftermath of World War I. The cost of World War I weakened the ability of the world to respond to a major crisis. America alone had ten billon dollars of debt from the war. In Germany America’s economic failure contributed to the rise of Adolf Hiltler, so the Stock Market Crash had a domino effect on our country and others.
The primary effected area would be the damage of infrastructure, loss of power, fires and other potentially catastrophic hazards. Much of San Diego is located in low lying valleys and in a densely populated central business district, because of the strong concentration of people damage and loss of life from collapsed infrastructure and debris would be great. Conclusion Through my findings and research I have found that the two most common natural disasters that San Diego and its outlying areas are susceptible to are wildfires and earthquakes. Although the frequencies for earthquakes are relatively low the possible of catastrophic damage from one is a major possibility during the next 20 years.
