This was caused by the development of digitalization where a wide range of formats has combined together creating a digital convergence. Digitalization allows information to be delivered across a range of media platforms. For example, what was once only available on the TV is now available across a wide range of formats such as IPad, iPhone, computers etc. This shows that the extent of digitalization has contributed to the growth and increasing diversity of the new media on society.

It is overwhelming when you think about how media is consuming, influencing and altering the way society thinks, what people believe and how individuals see and live their lives as a result of mobile devices, notebooks, iPad, satellite TV, instant messaging. The turbulent power of the Internet has made ecology and vital model in the new media backdrop. A community consists of members who share like interest and or pursuits. They are based on common purpose and or behaviors.
Violence is a source of laughter in children's programs; films present it as staple fare; it is served as pseudo-information in sensation-hungry newspapers and on reality TV; and it is even glorified by some musicians in their lyrics and performances. In fact in the public domain, it is difficult to find material that is not linked to violence in some form. Those who are worried by this development also point out that the negative examples provided by the media are not balanced by a positive view. Criminals are often seen as daredevil and debonair or are presented so as to arouse sympathy. When a teens watch a movie like Clock Orange or play a game like Grand Theft Auto does it affect their behavior or will they brush it off as a mere fantasy? Many people outside of the industry believe it affects teen’s sexual activities and violence tendencies.
To solve this problem the developers usually release two versions of the same movie. A rated one for more mature and young audiences and an unrated one, which usually consists of vulgarity every few seconds. ! The consequences of censorship can be devastating to some people but not all. Some negatives of this are that it works against creativity, and it may intrude the privacy of some people.
These two quotes clearly show that the media is a powerful and important tool, with the ability to inform and educate, and possibly entertain. The quotes then were based on the two earlier forms of media – Print and broadcast, such as newspapers, TVs and radio channels. However, with the introduction of new media, such as text, audio and visual material available on the internet, the media’s influence and power has increased, due to the greater efficiency of the new media in disseminating information and reaching out to wider and larger audiences. These two quotes also show that the media has both positive and negative influences on society. As such, it is important to stop the negative influences from the media, whilst harnessing its positive aspects for the greater good.
