Marleni Paulino Tuesday, November 13, 2012 Philosophy of Psychology Homework #3 What Works Makes You Happy As it states in the article on page 191“People sometimes need to adjust their goals in order to deal successfully with their developmental environment,” there has been various of times I’ve had to adjust my goals due to my developmental environment. When things happen unexpectedly usually is when you need to adjust your goals. Everything happens for a reason therefore when we adjust our goals the outcome is usually unpredictable however somewhat right. In high school when I thought about college I pictured myself far away from my parents; far away from the city I grew up at and on my own, by myself doing my own thing. It was an exciting feeling to be a junior in high school and talk about college opportunities and how different everything would be. The independence I would have, the partying, no more being bossed around and being told what to do, I just couldn’t wait. The feelings of being in a brand new environment made me feel so happy and excited inside. When I found out I was pregnant my goals, dreams, and fantasies came crashing down. I felt as though I wasn’t going to be able to do the things I had dreamt of doing. I didn’t have time to mourn or cry about it I knew right away I had to adjust my goals in order to deal with being successful in the environment that surrounded me. I quickly changed my plans. I started researching colleges around my hometown. I did the best I could in all my classes. I no longer joked about life, I knew I had to grow up fast because soon I no longer could use the excuse of just being a kid; I myself was having a kid. Every day my life dragged I thought it was a never ending night mare. The day I received my acceptance letter from Merrimack, tears came down my face. I was so proud of myself. I was
