After reading and getting a sense or idea of what wilding is, things made more sense. I do believe that the idea of wilding can make people go crazy or obsess about their greed and the only thing stopping us all from wilding is not understanding what wilding is. I also believe that people would rather take shortcuts to being wealthy other than working hard and earning it. Like what Derber said, “Many signs point to a corruption of the American Dream in out time. Most Americans do not become killers to make it up the ladder or to hold on to what hey have, but the traditional restraints on naked self-aggrandizement seem weaker-and the insatiability greater” (Derber, p. 14).
Get out and make a change in their community. Let their voice be heard and vote. But do it with a little intelligence, they are being deceived. They are being lied to by the very greedy people they vote in to office to take care of these issues for them. Understand that greed drives the system they have before them.
Assignment One In Miles Benson article, Political consultants tailor candidates’ message to what the voters want to hear, he has several opinions and views on how political consultants, opinion polls and negative advertising affect how politicians want us to feel, react and ultimately vote. It seems that research has discovered that if a politician talks in platitudes he has a better chance of getting himself or herself elected. Being specific seems to detrimental because too many questions are asked. Bill Hillsman, a media expert said that, “obviously, a candidate seeking votes is going to emphasize shared concerns and issues that are popular. But all too often political leadership simply means finding out what the people want and telling them you’ll give it to them” (Benson A3).
He differed from the average fraud perpetrator in that he admitted what he had done and promised to pay back the money he had stolen. The more he did it, the more it became an addiction. These characteristics made it difficult to detect him because everyone he worked for and with trusted and liked him. Although they didn’t like him for what he had but
Either way is fascinating to see how politics affect so much art. I hate the relation of art and politics. Art for me depicts freedom; on the other hand, politics depicts oppression and limitation. I didn’t know about the NEA until now, reinforcing the Mattick’s theory about the low concern about the defeat of the NEA. I strongly believe that the government has to be more concerned about culture than war.
In Chris Matthews’ book, Hardball, the author discusses politics as if it were a game and the strategies one needs in order to succeed in it. Matthews worked with many famous and successful politicians. After many firsthand experiences, Matthews was able to write Hardball, a book that teaches one the keys to the game of politics and even the errors made by past politicians that led to the ruining of their careers. Matthews uses Hardball as a way of informing any who seek success in the political world of important concepts and rules, many of which are similar to or the same as the concepts and rules created by the Italian, Niccolo Machiavelli, one of the founders of modern political science. In his book, Matthews explains the importance of having knowledge of alliances, enemies, deals, and reputations as these are important factors when it comes to being successful in the game known as politics.
In defense these working classes made their own political parties like the Working Men’s Party that show strength in city elections. They also made a saying in which they wanted to abolish the law that they should not imprison people for debt issues. They mentioned how it was not fair in which they had to go through the punishment of going into prison if that would only lessen the chance of actually getting the debt paid off. However, the most of the rich were against this because they thought that misfortunes can happen to anyone. The person who is in debt promises to be able to pay it off and if they don’t it is only their fault so they find no reason in abolishing this law of imprisonment due to
It’s just some more empty promises from wealthy, money hungry officials who just want votes and publicity to tell people how they are going to fix things and it will be different. They are in way over their heads and people are tired of listening to broken promises that will never be fulfilled. It just goes back to the beginning that’s to blame? But the biggest question that none of our so called government officials and leaders can answer is
He notes that the entire "public square" is being "re-feudalized" (82). A great point was made that the American public square was a place where the common folk could come and share information about what was really going in their community and possibly further away, but now there really is no public square. Today, our public square is the news media which is funded and manipulated by those with money. The media must then be fearful that the funding may be taken away resulting in tainted news for the purpose of not losing funds or profit. This funding usually has one common source, and that is politicians who are trying to corrupt the views of the common people in order to obtain higher political status and, most of all,
I am in total agreement with this statement. I believe that it is true that once money is brought into the situation, students will no longer look at the sport the same; “playing” would no longer be playing. It would no longer be something to do because of the enjoyment. It would become a job that has to be done because what they seek in the end. At the end of the day, the college athletes are involved in this situation because a love once their drive to compete (Collegian Staff).
