According to Gravell, (2012:18), the main role of the Teacher is to help learners achieve their chosen programme. Gravell went further to explain that this can be achieved by using various teaching and learning methods whilst taking into account learners individual needs. As a Team leader in the Princes Trust I will wear many hats: friend, judge, mentor, different roles for extracurricular duties. When I say mentor it means many things from a role model to coach to confidant, someone I believe who encourages positive behaviour this could be with the use of more responsibilities in the class room. Helping them improve the skills this could be through communication for example being able to understand situations and resolve differences which will build trust.
While differentiation is acknowledged to be a compelling and effectual means of restructuring the traditional classroom to include students of diverse abilities, interests and learning profiles, the philosophy is lacking in realistic validation. Currently, a great deal has been promoted with regard to theory, with a decided gap in the literature regarding the use and effectiveness of the differentiated model in practice. There’s no silver bullet to differentiation because it all depends upon the individual teacher. While reports speak of promising outcomes, still to be decided however, is whether teachers have restructured their teaching, being aware of the wealth of information presented on differentiation. One of the biggest factors of receiving a good education is the type of teacher one has. Your teacher must be organized. If the teacher is not organized, how can they expect you to be. The teacher must also be experienced in that particular field he or she is teaching. Teachers who have a long background of experience know how to handle students, what they like, what they do not like, and they also have learned some personal strategies to deal with the difficult students.
For this reason I believe teaching to be one of the most challenging and interesting career choices. I have chosen what I think at this stage are some of the most important qualities in a teacher and have described why I deem them to be. I think the most important trait for a teacher is to be organised and well-prepared for classes. It will be immediately evident to a class if their teacher has not prepared a lesson properly and may have far reaching implications. For example, not marking homework on time sends out the message that it was unimportant or that the teacher could not be bothered.
There are two types of collaboration styles that can be utilized by a school leader. The first style is itinerant collaboration, which is for short term projects. The itinerant collaboration teams are developed and are together for a given amount of time in order to achieve a specific goal. These groups have unique problems that usually call for quick responses and solutions. Itinerant collaboration groups provide positive aspects, such as forming personal relationships with school leadership and their colleagues that are involved in the group.
Effective teachers strive to motivate and engage all their students in learning, believing every student is capable of achieving success at school and they do all they can to find ways of making each student successful. They personalize the learning for their students and uses techniques that have each student working on tasks that engage and challenge them to achieve their personal best. Teachers have a repertoire of effective teaching strategies and use them to implement well designed teaching programs and lessons. (AITSL (a), 2012). Planning influences what student will learn, because planning can transform the available time and curriculum materials into activities, assignments and tasks for students so time is the essence of planning.
It also allows them to increase the higher order of thinking within the lesson and bring it up to a level of understanding to where each child is challenged based on their own method of learning. Although the first competency of rigorous learning and planning the lessons are encouraged, another competency of this component is professional development. Professional development helps teachers with every aspect of their work environment. We incorporate professional development in our organization by attending all of our staff meetings, monthly grade level meetings, and in-district workshops. The professional development meetings inform the teachers of how to incorporate rigorous learning into their lessons and also explains what the district expects to see from the staff.
It not only provides more opportunities and options but also more academic potential. It also adds value when it comes to securing certain top positions. These values are given to you for working hard and achieving the status of a successful human being. Schools teach you good morals on how to do an effort, how to work hard, how to achieve things, how to become an adult, and how to work with others and get results. “The choices you make now, the people you surround yourself with, they all have the potential to affect your life, even who you are, forever” (Xplore).
The teacher or professor may accomplish this by reviewing the material, emphasizing key points, and providing the students with examples that they would easily relate to. Most of them are willing to dedicate extra time to help the student meet his or her needs. Several high school teachers, as well as some college professors go beyond reading, writing, and arithmetic. They teach you about life, all its hardships and all its rewards. Receiving a good education is great, but enhancing yourself and growing as a person is just as important.
Role of peer tutors in the classroom Peer tutors should prove to be good role models because they need to be a positive influence for the younger students to follow. Peer tutors should arrive to class with a positive attitude ready to help the students, being organized, asking questions and using their abilities and skills to assist the students in the classroom learn are very important guidelines for the peer tutor to follow. Having a positive attitude is an excellent trait for a peer tutor to inherit. Having a positive attitude makes it easier for the students in the classroom to approach the peer tutor for assistance. Maintaining a positive attitude is helpful in many ways and makes you likeable among the students.
