The Camps. The Holocaust\Shoah Page. Retrieved August 19, 2010, from http://frank.mtsu.edu/~baustin/holocamp.html This site offered great information about the camps that the Jews had to live in. I didn’t use much information from this site but it was nice to compare notes with this information against other information I had gotten from different websites. The quote I used in my paper interested me the most because it shows that the German were trying their hardest to justify what they were doing by calling them
Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, some conspiracy theorists believe that the deliberate extermination of 6 million Jews in the Nazi concentration camps is simply a conspiracy intended to discredit Hitler. They do not deny that Jews were interned in prison camps during World War II but argue that the number of deaths was greatly exaggerated. They say that the pictures of emaciated people and bodies stacked like cord wood were actually of Poles and Germans who died of typhus rather than being the victims of mistreatment. They maintain that gas chambers were just a rumor. To buy into this revisionist view one would need to discount the mountain of pictorial and first-hand witness evidence available, but that’s never stood in the way
Therefore abstaining Hitler from having a grand design to put into effect. They deem Hitler to be more of an opportunist than a mastermind and that the eradication of the Jews became a convenient division of Hitler’s charming of the Jewish population. Extreme structuralists tend to believe that that Holocaust was initiated by the German bureaucracy, with Hitler having no place in its inception. They believe he merely capitalized on what would became an opportune occurrence for his winning over of the population. While Structuralists with a more passive view would believe that although effort was made by the Nazis to eventually remove all Jews from Europe, mass genocide was merely a last resort.
Dulffer argue that holocaust was above all due to Hitler, “but to recognize that this is not to free from blame the hundreds thousands of others who were involved in carrying out the Holocaust”Dulffer. Goldhagen says that "hitlers ideal was broadly shared by germany”goldhagen. The bureaucracy was involved and had massive collaborations with the SS, the civil service, army, and the business corporations. This depressed Jews of their rights and property, isolated them, and killed them. The army was also
Name Professor Course Date America Views on the Holocaust According to Abzug, many people are wondering whether Americans were heroic Nazi concentration camp liberators or pathetic bystanders to holocaust brutality and annihilation during the period 1933-45. This has been the subject of long debates on what the Americans knew about Hitler’s Final Solution to Jews Question. Nevertheless, there have been debates on what could have been the reaction of US if it had known the truth about the Nazi plan in advance and the reasons for them. Using primary sources from journalists of that time in Abzug’s America Views the Holocaust, 1933-1945: A Brief Documentary History, this discussion explores the real context of the Holocaust situation
For many, the serial number (located on the forearm) is the most unforgettable image of the Holocaust. Having come to symbolize the brutality, and dehumanization attempt of the Nazis, most of what is known about them stem from personal accounts of Jewish survivors. Initially, the main method of identifying the Jewish population was through the use badges. Reinhard Heydrich was the first to recommend that Jews be forced to wear badges following the Kristallnacht in November 1938. The German government made badges mandatory in Poland in November 1939.
Many people, especially Americans, believe that Germany killed the passengers on the Lusitania for no apparent reason. Now, the government of America tries to call the incident a horrible mistake. Germany did not, however, completely act in error. Surprisingly, the Lusitania had many dark secrets. Germany sunk the Lusitania because
The subjects of Dachau were careless that their city was going to turn into the source of death camps and of the Holocaust, the mass homicide conferred by the Nazi s in World War II. Dachau Concentration Camp, which would soon be set on the edge of their group, would serve as a model for all Nazi elimination camps. This impeccable model of a Nazi executing machine now speak to the begin of the unpleasantness filled Holocaust and the Nazi's determination to accomplish a flawless pop culture throughout World War II. On March 21, 1933, just two months after Adolf Hitler was delegated Chancellor of Germany, Heinrich Himmler, the Commander of the Schutzstaffel (SS) Elite Police Force and a standout amongst the most effective men in Nazi Germany, requested that a camp for political rivals be based on the grounds of a betrayed explosive manufacturing plant on the edge of the little group of Dachau, close Munich. The Nazi-controlled daily paper, the Vð"â¶lkischer Beobachter (deciphered Racial Observer) gladly broadcasted that the first death camp, with a limit of in excess of 5000 detainees, would be secured close Dachau.
After World War Two (WW2) had ended and the dust began to settle over the Nazi regime, historians began to try and analyse the monstrosities that had occurred in Nazi Germany. The two first interpretations of the Holocaust that came about were intentionalism. This was the belief that without Hitler as Führer the Holocaust would never have happened. Therefore it’s no coincidence that Michael Marrus was an intentionalist historian. The other interpretation was structuralism.
While the term ‘Shoah’ the Hebrew word for "catastrophe," is the preferred name by the Jews and most commonly use in France for example. I think ‘Shoah’ is the right word to use when we talk about what happened to the Jews during WWII, while Holocaust means genocide and should be use to describe any genocide and mass murder, the Holocaust wasn’t the only Genocide on Earth and Nazis did not only killed Jews but also many mentally disabled, communists, homosexuals and other ‘undesirables’. In other words, who owns the word 'Holocaust' and the memory it contains? Does this word is not also applicable to the massacre of Indians in America? I think it
