In the early 1800s the sudden onset of the Second Great Awakening influenced many reform movements, inspiring people to seek personal salvation and improve their lives as well as the lives of those they considered less fortunate. The Second Great Awakening launched a variety of reform movements across the country in an attempt to perfect the democratic society. Americans who participated in the Second Great Awakening considered America “youthful” and thought that they could perfect their surroundings and help those in need. The Awakening called on followers to prove their faith by helping those less fortunate than themselves by spreading their ideals. Two examples of the widespread influence of the Second Great Awakening are the creation of utopian societies and the temperance movement.
Christine Maretta English 1102 Research Proposal October 19, 2014 The Salem Witchcraft trials helped to shape a stronger modern day judicial system. One of the examples I intend to address in my research paper is the separation of church and state. Although both the current judicial system and that of the primitive seventeenth century Salem are based on the foundation of justice, they show some major differences in terms of defense, how much religion and public opinion play a role. There are many similarities but also major differences in the way our judicial system and that of Salem. Convictions now require hard evidence based on fact .

The policing history in the United States of America is traced to 900 A.D (Uchida, 2004). The United States policing concepts were influenced by the English law enforcement concepts (Uchida, 2004). Law-abiding citizens played the law enforcement roles guided by state-sanctioned force to keep social control prior to emergence of police officers (Uchida, 2004). When Sir Peel first began his policing ideology his principles of law enforcement practicing were separated into nine elements that were the foundation for how he believed law enforcement should be.

Work shop task 1 Community Policing Community policing is a style of policing that emphasises a conciliatory, rather than coercive, approach to police work that seeks to move away from the police-centred authoritarian nature of traditional approaches, focusing instead on a co-participatory model of crime prevention that accepts that the community has a legitimate, active role to play in the policing process (White & Perrone, 2010, p. 601). Community policing began to appear in both the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) during the early 1980s. The global adoption of community policing that followed was reflective of a paradigm shift within many policing organisations from the professional era to the community era. Community policing has been enthusiastically received and readily implemented by communities and policing organisations alike over recent decades to an unprecedented extent (Ratcliffe, 2004). Community policing encompasses 4 key features; philosophical, strategic, tactical and organizational (Putt, 2010).
