Policing Development and Operation Trends Policing development and operation trends started with the beginning of the police department. Over time some trends have caught on, while others did not do so well. These trends take on different aspects of policing. A lot of different trends have taken place from past to present. The current past trends that exist are currently the use of computers within the policing community. Many officers have equipment in their cars such as laptops in their vehicles in order to benefit them while on traffic stops and other police related work. There is also trends in policing currently that allows police vehicles to be on the highways without there being an officer in the car to patrol the highway, and the vehicles take pictures of cars that are speeding, and a ticket is sent. There are also other trends such as traffic cameras that monitor signals and lights when there are not police officers around. These trends are beneficial in many ways because of cutbacks on the need of a large number of officers on traffic, and allows them to focus on the higher crimes such as homicide and…show more content…
Policing has narrowed its focus to be more locally confined to the community the police are directly in. Policing today is more about involving the community. Tradition of limited police authority, tradition of local control, and decentralized and fragmented police system are the three main features from England that we have here in America. Robert Peel is known as the “father” of modern policing. The sheriff and constable came from Colonial America. Computers in patrol cars are the biggest current trend. In the future the trends will most likely become more digital. Policing has had its ups and downs, sometimes easier and sometimes harder as time goes on and trends
