The hope that maybe this was it, I was fully recovered, I could get back to the business of playing and winning games” (Peter 114). He uses this “hope” to get him through his toughest times: his recoveries, his attempts at rehab, his relapses, etc. This kind of perseverance and determination is what the University of Nebraska should be proud of. Nevertheless, Jason Peter had a major drug problem, but with his strength and willpower, he pulled himself through it. Some people might argue that Peter didn’t have enough strength, maybe because he went through rehab 4 different times, but regardless of all that, he succeeded.
The case was in a period of police transition and was a real test for them. In my opinion the investigation was a success due to a lot of successful methods. For example the use of forensics showcases the improvements made and just how far they had come. This was effective in many ways as it led to the identification to Cora’s body however there was still a bit of estimations which shows room for improvement in accuracy. I personally think all of the use of technology was effective because they had so many resources and made some real breakthroughs in investigative technology.
During trial, he testified he knew the victim previously, had sex with her prior to that night and on that night. He claimed the wound was from a sudden stop in the car which forced the ice pick the victim was holding (to threaten defendant against ending their relationship) into her chest. During trial evidence of a previous incident was entered as evidence of identity, intent, and planning (as ordered to the jury by the judge). Sixteen year old Judy Baker and Officer Kirk testified that six weeks prior, on the night of November 5, 1957, Williams was apprehended by police running from Miss Baker’s car (parked at Webb City) after she found him in the back seat and screamed. Williams told the officers that he had climbed into the car, a black Plymouth, believing it was his brother’s, to take a nap.
Her grandfather was an alcoholic and she had claimed he abused her. At age 11, Wuornos engaged in sexual activities in school in exchange for cigarettes, drugs, and food. She had also engaged in sexual activities with her own brother. She also states that she was raped by her grandfather’s friend. At 14 years old she was pregnant, she had claim it to be her older brother’s at the time.
The law affects nearly every aspect of our lives every day. On the one hand, we have laws to deal with crimes such as robbery or murder and other threats and challenges to society. On the other hand, laws regulate common activities such as driving a car, renting an apartment, getting a job or getting married. Our legal system functions well when people both understand their legal rights and live up to their legal responsibilities. In fact, the basis of much of our law is common sense.
During the trial, Mark Fuhrman perjured himself on the witness stand, later pleading nolo contendere to a charge of perjury. 2) What were the defenses used? In a criminal trial, unlike a civil trial, the burden of proof is on the prosecution. They had collected a lot of evidence from the crime scene and from Simpson’s home. They also had collected a history of domestic violence between Simpson and Brown while they were married.
Both countries have one of the most efficient system when it’s about violating the laws. For instance, when I was a kid I always had this fear about thieves, but I have never experience this situation because the laws where extremely strict, at least where I lived. Now that I moved to this country I also feel safe because of all the securities implemented. For example, wherever I walk there is a policeman nearby. Also the amendments of the constitution, who protects people against bad and harmful laws, make me feel secure about the government.
His statement was “In my training experience this guy had I’m a gang member written all over him” (pbs.org). During the investigation it was discovered that Gaines was connected to a rap label called Death Row records that was owned by Marion “Suge” Knight. It was found that Knight was hiring off duty police officers to work as security guards. There were three investigations into the shooting of Officer Gaines. Lyga was absolved of the shooting.
Throughout my life I have had many ethical dilemmas I have had to encounter with, however, some easier than others. One of the worst one’s I have come to encounter with was at the age of thirteen. Not being taken care of as a child was hard, but I knew it was for understandable reasons, yet I was always taken care of people who have loved me, and that I do appreciate. I was always taken care of in Rosemead, and in one of the worst parts of it. There were always gun shots here and there, theft, and rape.
His mother did prison time for Strong Armed Robbery and Manson had an uncle who also committed crimes in which he was subjected to and aware of at a very young age. The absent and rejection of his mother over the years affected him profoundly.
