In the article selected, Couple Wins Suit, Doc Didn't Suggest Aborting Baby With Down Syndrome, the author, Rebecca Taylor, discusses a court case in Oregon in which Ariel and Deborah Levy filed a lawsuit against their doctor for failing to let them know that their daughter would be born with Down Syndrome. Taylor's subjectivity comes through in almost every word in type. Carefully chosen phrases such as "$2.9 million for saying you would have killed your child" (Taylor, 2012) leave no room for mistaking the authors opinions. Taylor communicates disdain for the subjects of her article in many ways. It is apparent what her personal beliefs are, even though they are never stated.
In order to receive the complete vaccination, there is a series of three Gardasil shots that need to be administered. Merino states that after receiving these shots, the woman has a seventy percent increased chance of eliminating the virus, only if vaccinated before becoming sexually active. The series of shots themselves cost roughly 360 dollars, depending on the insurance coverages. Merino says that it is immoral and unethical, which is why he believes that the parents should choose whether their daughters receive the vaccination. He believes the most pressing question is “Why the rush?”.
The procedure requires a physician to insert a probe, called a transducer, into the woman. This transducer sends out waves which reflect off a woman’s body structure and in turn, produce an image of the fetus. After the procedure is complete, women must undergo a full twenty-four hours before they are actually allowed to go through with the abortion. Although this test is not in mandatory effect in any states, it was very near so. Virginia governor, Bob McDonnell, was open to this shameful procedure and pushed for it to be adopted in his state.
After the first trimester of pregnancy the risk of congenital deformation drops to 2% (McCrary, ML, Severson, J, Tyring, SK 1999). The obstetrician would have recommended the immunoglobulin due to the fact that the pregnant woman had never developed the virus and so would not have been immune, as well as being in close contact with her infectious daughter. b) What are the risks to the baby if chickenpox is contracted during pregnancy? Chicken pox during pregnancy causes issues in 3 out of every 1,000 pregnancies (Ács, N, Bánhidy, FG Czeizel, AE 2010). If chickenpox is developed prior to 20 weeks, it is very difficult to treat and there is a larger chance that the newborn will suffer from Foetal Varicella Syndrome.
Whereas if my child gets one of the viruses or diseases from not being vaccinated it can be fatal to not only my child but spread to other children who are not vaccinated. The evidence to support my viewpoint is that there is still no concrete evidence supporting the theory that getting your child vaccinated causes things such as autism and that it will weaken their immune systems. I read “According to a 2003 report by researchers at the Pediatric Academic Society, childhood vaccinations in the US prevent about 10.5 million cases of infectious illness and 33,000 deaths per year.”( "Vaccines ProCon.org", n.d., p. xx) If you were to not get your child their vaccinations they are at risk for getting the disease/virus and this could be fatal, and it is not only bad for them but could spread to other children as well this increases the risk of spreading the disease whereas if they were all vaccinated there would be no risk of
Keeping active can help prevent more than 3,000 cases of cancer a year in the UK. I think this strategy is good as it’s helping prevent cancer as well as helping to keep a healthy body at the same time. The only disadvantage to this strategy is people not being able to afford a gym membership or any gym equipment for their home but they could still do exercise in their home without any equipment. Another strategy to prevent breast cancer is to drink less alcohol, just by sticking to the government guidelines. In the UK, alcohol causes 12,500 cases of cancer, around 4%.I also think this strategy is easy to follow as there’s no need to stop drinking alcohol completely, just less of it.
In the second part of the "Sicko" video it talks about the people who do have coverage, but when their primary care doctor orders tests, to see a specialist, and even surgeries the person gets told no thats not covered. For some it meant death and the person ended up dying a few months to a year later. Some people started hiring attorneys to get the health insurance to pay or they sued the company. Which lead the video to talk about what the health insurance company does to maximize profits by digging deep into peoples health files going back years and years to find one little thing so a policy could be canceled instead of having to pay out money. One guy got fed up with all of the health insurance coverage issues and posted something online and within a short period of time started getting responses. "

They don’t think a woman can be denied care because of her financial status. They think that public funding for family planning is critical. The Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act would shut doors to Title X clinics when they are very important. Women also rely on Title X programs for not only abortions but for cancer screenings, annual exams, contraceptive services, and testing and treating sexually transmitted infections. President Obama has prioritized the program.
Lastly, the amount of personal bankruptcies will be reduced. Many Americans file for bankruptcy because of their medical bills, if the rates go down and more people can afford coverage then it would make sense that the amount of bankruptcies would also go down. Even though the pros all help and seem great the cons to this policy also holds valid points. First, “18 million of the uninsured will be forced to go under Medicaid, while the rest will have to accept another government program. Even so, millions will remain uninsured,” (Pros and cons of Obama care June 29, 2012).
