Pinocchio Character Traits Character traits are natural qualities that shape the way a person acts and ultimately whom they are at the core of their being. In “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by Carlo Collidi and Roberto Innocenti, Pinocchio exhibits three key traits that shape his experiences throughout the book. The first example is his gullibility, ultimately the cause of nearly all of his misfortunes. Secondly Pinochio was disobedient to all those he should have listened to; he lost a great deal when he decided that he was to do only what he wanted. Thirdly Pinocchio was very obnoxious, stubbornly so; this was most prevalent when he was given help by others. A well thought out character’s experiences will be shaped by the traits which he is given. Ultimately a great deal of Pinocchio’s troubles, adventures and misfortunes were cause by his gullibility. Pinocchio shows that gullibility in his first encounter with the Cat and the Fox. Who easily trick him into taking his gold coins to the “Field of Miracles” in order to grow a gold tree. In the very same day Fox and the Cat trick him again, conning him into paying for their exorbitant meals, needed because of their medical conditions of course, and rooms in the inn. Pinocchio is such a brash perpetrator of gullibility and lack of sense, the judge in the town of Fools’ Trap sentenced him to four months in prison for the crime of foolishness. If Pinocchio had but thought a little more about the stories he had been told he would have avoided many of the misfortunes which befell him. Pinocchio was almost always disobedient, every command and request that he received, he ignored, consequently getting himself into deeper and deeper trouble.
