A career in physiotherapy has been my ambition since my father had an accident at workplace and suffered from a complete paralysis on his right leg. It was through an intervention of a physiotherapist, my father eventually regained the uses of his leg and has since fully recovered from the condition. This experience raises in me the desire of becoming a physiotherapist. My understanding of physiotherapy is that it‘s a science based subject which views movement as central to good health and well being of an individual. It is a medical practice by which patient’s physical well being can be improved without the use of drugs or surgery. I understand that the aims of a physiotherapist is to identify patient’s needs and make the most of his ability to promote good health, give advice and guidance, treatments and rehabilitation. I am happy that I went on that trip because to me it was a very moving experience, and something I will never forget. It was an intriguing experience for me as I had to work with people with devastated body parts who have sustained terrible injuries through accidents, sports activities and physical illness such as stroke etc. This was a distinctively gratifying experience which I feel would stand in good stead in future, since am hoping to work as a physiotherapist in Britain or in countries torn by civil wars. It was while in this position that I developed a strong desire to care and provide support people with physical disabilities.
