Sexual decisions affect not only our physical wellbeing but our mental and even spiritual wellbeing too. Positive sexual experiences can make us more confident in how we see ourselves, raise our self-esteem, and make us hold ourselves in a generally higher regard. Negative sexual experiences can sometimes irreparably damage our self-esteem and self-image, making us perpetually insecure and unsure, making it difficult for us to have healthy personal relationships both platonic and sexual. It is up to us to decide which decisions will be for our ultimate benefit or loss, and running it through the filter of critical thinking is a way to judge this. In my own life I used critical thinking perhaps less often than I should have when making sexual decisions, however, there was one area that I am proud to say I always exhibited control over- contraception.
There is also the fact that she has a dissolute feeling when she knows the people that she mailed the letters to will read them. Yet one could make the argument that Miss. Strangeworth is not evil but simply has Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCD is where she must have everything perfect, “She found doing things exactly right” (Jackson 210). This would cause her to see the imperfections within people but not herself and cause her to think that she had to be better than anyone else.
In Cyrano de Bergerac outer beauty is seen as a priority in the beginning of the play, Cyrano has the need to push his not appealing appearance to the world and defends himself with his quick wit when he is offended. Even though Cyrano has an exquisite inner beauty he seems to only care about his exterior . Christian on the other hand is beautiful but does not have a personality nor the ability to express his feelings. Cyrano and Christian battle for Roxane's love throughout the play and Roxane decides inner beauty is greater than outer beauty although she felt outer beauty was more important in the beginning. In Roxanne C.D.
Brave New World Universal happiness is the key to stability, and in the novel Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, the World State ensures its citizens get exactly what they want, all the time, “Community, Identity, Stability” (1). The citizens of this world seem to be genuinely happy due to ignorance and blindness. This reoccurring theme is important because it emphasizes the idea that happiness and truth cannot coexist. The World State begins at making people happy right from birth, or more “creation”. They genetically tamper with embryos depending on what caste they are destined to be in.
The first example of unrefined beauty that Lucy encounters is the benevolent yet tactless kindness of the Emersons when offering to exchange rooms with Lucy. Lucy may have initially been shocked by the Emerson’s behaviour but she realises that ‘there are people who do things which are most indelicate, and yet at the same time beautiful,’ unlike Charlotte who sees beauty and delicacy as ‘the same.’ This realisation provides the foundation to Lucy’s transformation as she begins to realise that not everything needs to be structured and rigid in order to be wonderful. On the contrary, structure and propriety can often hinder beauty, which Lucy begins to notice in the events following the murder
She was caring, intelligent, and ambitious. Since Gloria was judged by the way she looked, no one realized how great of a person she was. We need to take more time to get to know people instead of judging by physical images because “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, if you would have gotten to know her, she would have looked more attractive. I believe that anyone can be pretty, if Gloria would have put her hair down and dressed in more trendy clothes people would have thought she was very attractive. Even someone that is “pretty” can have an ugly personality, so you never know unless you get to know a person.
Human example and influence are also very powerful and can corrupt the mind eager for recognition or that craves to feel wanted and accepted. The morals and values that this type of person has been taught are pushed to the back of his/her mind and become less important than the need to "fit in". Unfortunately for these people, any attention and recognition is sought after, even if it is negative. There is an obvious difference between those who are afflicted with no conscience at birth and those who have one. No amount of moral teaching or love and comfort will keep these people satisfied and happy to be "good".
However, when properly used, the Triple Package leads to success and can be efficiently self-taught. One of the traits of the Triple Package includes a superiority complex. As Chua mentioned, sometimes group superiority can result in disastrous effects. However, many people have superiority instilled in the form of personal superiority. This personal superiority gives us a drive to be better than others and encourages us to strive for success.
This was a problem for Elizabeth as she had to do more to prove that she could be a good leader. This leads onto the fact that her sister Mary wasn’t a good leader so therefore there were low expectations of Elizabeth, This also meant Elizabeth had a lot to prove in order to be a good leader. Although this was a problem for Elizabeth, there were also positive factors to her gender. One of these was that Elizabeth was very good at using her flirtatious charm to get what she wanted. Another reason Elizabeth’s gender wasn’t too much of a problem was that she asserted her royal authority; it was her divine right to become the queen as god had chosen her.
In times of kings and queens people would speak of leaders to prideful that they can not see past the truth they do not realize their own corruption. Pride can be many people’s downfall, and it also can be peoples push to the top. Like Oedipus, he showed so much hubris that eventually leads him to his fall. Being prideful was considered a bad thing that showed weakness and over-confidence. Now the meaning of the word twisted, pride is now good trait having pride means one is confident in what they have done and are proud of it.
