PGY 207 Case Studies in Physiology (1 credit hour) Fall 2013 Wednesday – Section 1 @ 10:00 AM (MN 202 or HSRB 222), section 2 @ 2:00 PM (MN 442 or HSRB 310) We will meet on Wednesday, August 28! Objectives: This course is designed to enhance critical thinking skills and provide an opportunity for current or former students of Elementary Physiology (PGY 206) to reinforce their understanding of the subject by discussing problems related to physiological principles. Questions, problems and/or case studies will be coordinated with the material presented concurrently in PGY 206. It is expected that these discussions will clarify principles and help students develop logical thinking skills. Format: Weekly group discussions will be facilitated by a skilled physiologist. Content and specific information will be provided by the students from their handouts, texts and outside resources. Specific problem sets will be provided one week prior to the PGY 207 class in which they will be discussed. Students will be expected to prepare a brief typed response for each question and be prepared to discuss the problems in detail during class. These homework assignments are distributed in class the previous week and posted on the PGY 206 Blackboard site. To be successful, students must: Review assigned problems and/or cases Formulate typed answers to questions before class Voluntarily participate in class Respond when called upon (“I don’t know” is the only unacceptable answer) Ask questions on your own Constructively criticize Course Text: none – cases will be provided and posted on the PGY 206 Blackboard site.
