Topic Aim: To compare earth architecture of different regions Objective: To understand the phenomenology of architecture in different places with similar functions and same material. Research question: How does a place build the architecture and help maintain it? Subsidiary questions How does a character of place initiate human activities? How does atmosphere shape buildings? How does the character of the place and human activities help maintain the architecture? How does architecture shape the human activities? Literature review In phenomenology, the space is defined as a place where a thing occurs. The thing ‘takes place’. A place is not just considered as a locality but it is a character recognized through senses. This character of the environment forms an atmosphere and it is this atmosphere that gets different properties according to unique cultural and environmental conditions. (A detailed literature review is in process) Scope and limitation This study will help in understanding the phenomenology of architecture in different regions. This study will be limited to two regions namely Kutch and Dang districts of Gujarat, India. It only looks at the mud buildings of these places. All the drawings will be taken from secondary sources/ unpublished thesis. Methodology Establishing a theoretical premise of the phenomenon of architecture through references and case studies General conclusion of the study area Selection and observation of case studies Analysis of the collected data through the established theoretical premises Chapter 1 Introduction This chapter will consist of literature review regarding earth as a building material and the concept of phenomenology.
