AMT2 – Service Line Development - Task 3 Kasey Clark A. Trends – National Healthcare Trends and Policy Initiatives Healthcare has changed rapidly in this millennium. I have been in Medical Records, Billing and Collections in Healthcare since 1989 and have seen many changes. Trinity Community Hospital is not immune to changes in healthcare nor is any other facility. An overall trend that needs to be altered is the fact that the patients that I have spoken with feel that the pharmaceutical and insurance companies have excessive amounts of power that causes their physicians to act in the pharmacy and insurance carriers’ best interest instead of the patient.
When looking at the history of health care economics and the primary funding source, the term supply and demand comes to mind. The funding of health care has always been difficult and will continue to be more difficult because of the lack of resources in the United States. The primary source of funding for medical services has encountered many changes. The increased demand for medical services led to the creation and utilization of health care insurance. This came to be because of the increased need for health care services with lower out of pocket costs.
However, not all of the new technology will successfully emerge into the health care system because it is very costly to implement. A major argument against a nationalized health care system is that it will be inefficient. I think this is a false worry. The so-called "efficient" system of competition in the US is actually just the opposite. Costs are increasing, administrative waste is on the rise, every time you turn around there is a “new” policy in place or a “new” task force that causes all sorts of paperwork, rules and regulations and is just another item which needs to be mandated, monitored and controlled to the fullest by who knows who, while money is just lining the ever deeper pockets of the rich. Physicians and patients are subject to corporate control and the poor or more of the “working poor” simply do not
Many argue that exploding health care costs present a serious threat not only to our overall economy and federal budget, but also to state budgets, and that health reform needs to focus primarily on controlling these costs. (Grau J., Giesa

Cost of healthcare must be controlled eventually because it is reaching a point in which the government is finding it hard to sustain the needs of everyone. Healthcare must reform in order to reduce the cost of healthcare before the quality of healthcare begins to reduce drastically. The level of current national health care expenditures Health care is a huge player in healthcare spending which the United States is over whelmed by their spending.
In America today, there is a public and political outcry for the overhaul of our Healthcare system. Of the many notable problems, the overwhelming cost of prescription drugs in America seems to be of the highest importance, second only to the increasing cost of health insurance. However, with every proposed solution, there arises a series of major concerns for the big pharmaceutical companies in America.
