1. Yesterday I wrote to The Company asking to them to deliver barbed wire to the pavilion. Predicting they would be curious with this request, I insisted that I was interested in preventing birds from nesting in the gutters. I hope they believe this and think I am a diligent employee. Perhaps I will be promoted to 2nd class Shepard. I had considered a more detailed description, something that would specify the issue but changed my mind, for fear of appearing foolish to them. I was almost convinced that The Company would not accept this request but many days later, with no formal response, men in a truck came with a roll of barbed wire. I imagined that they were suspicious of what would be done with the wire they had brought me and before they had the opportunity to question my motives, I moved it out of sight and returned inside. 2. I have never seen a horse more than two years old, and wondered how old horses grew to be. Observing the life of sheep was a much simpler task - after a few years I was able to predict when they would die and even the time that they would give birth to lamb. Horses were much stranger animals to maintain. I worked tirelessly at building the fence while the horses surrounded me, curious. Upon completion of the fence I stared at it, perplexed at how crooked it appeared when looked at from afar. I decided to ask for Marie’s advice when she returned. 3. The horses have begun to act fiercely, butting their heads into the fence. At one point while building the fence, I started deeply into the pool and saw hundreds of eyes staring back at me – all of which were horses who were fooled into thinking the pool was shallow. It was deeply hypnotising and it took me many moments to realise I was leaning over far too much to be safe. Many days later I heard the muffle of a truck that was overdue for a repair.
