The usefulness of pets in our homes can not be overemphasized, people acquire pet for various purpose. Some of the purpose are companionship, protection stewardship just to mention but a few. For what ever purpose these pets are acquired their relationship with humans can be termed as mutual, because human provide shelter, food and medical care for these pets just the same way they provide such needs to every human members of the family. Lets take dog for instance as a pet in our home, the dog has every sense organ and respond to stimuli just the same way as human. These characteristics is enough to treat dogs as family member. Most dog act in our homes as securities and laid their life down in the course of protecting their owners. I read a story from yahoo news of a dog who refuses to leave his master grave after his dead master was buried. Reading this story alone gave me the notion to treating pets as member of my family no matter the kind of pet. The action of this dog did not only shown how he protected his master it also show that the dog was loyal to his master before and after the death of his master, this kind of loyalty is not even find among humans. Most pets takes it as a point of duty to being a companion to their owners by playing with their owners especially when their owners are lonely and have nobody as his or her companion. Pets are sensitive to actions and reactions, understand body languages easily and know when their master are happy or not happy and as such make all necessary effort to bring happiness to his or her master. If pets can provide these functions mentioned above and human in return provides shelter, food and medicals care for them, which has resulted to a mutual relationship between the pets and their owners i think they should be treated as family
