Gerardine Elie English 098/099, Section 166 Essay 1 Final Draft How do you feel about Obama proposing that students should have the opportunity to attend community college for free for two years? I feel that this is a very controversial topic and it can go either way.On January 20th, 2015, during his State of the Union, President Obama proposed making community college tuition free for two years. Or as he put it in the speech, “to lower the cost of community college — to zero.” This proposal is a great approach to boost college graduation rates and it allows students to educate themselves and not have to worry about tuition. But Obama’s proposal has some positives and negatives to it. With Obama’s proposal students will learn to be responsible and have goals and students will become more educated.

College is finally affordable, from raising the maximum Pell Grant to working with schools to settle rising college tuition cost; these are all life-changing improvements. What a breath of fresh air it is to actually see the changes a President talks about. Once again, the visionary, that is, President Barack Obama has brought to Americans what we lacked and needed most; hope.
Kids think that they can just save the money they would spend on college and start working to make more. They think they will earn more in the long run, but students with a degree make more money than they kids working. College will only help us students for our future by preparing us to manage time and get our work done. College will teach students how to do the work right the first time with no re-dues or make-ups. In the workforce you have one shot to do it right and keep producing more for your company.

Ultimately, it was this war-time industrial boom that brought the nation out of the Great Depression and made the United States the wealthiest nation in the world after the war ended. During the war years, the U. S. economy expanded rapidly. Each year saw the Gross National Product (GNP) rise by 15 percent or more. Production skyrocketed from 1942-1945 as President Franklin D. The North American freight railroad business is chugging along very nicely, reports the Wall Street Journal, and railroad companies are engaged in a building boom surpassing anything seen since the industry’s 19th century golden age. Major rail lines are spending $14 billion this year on rail yards, refueling stations, additional track and upgrades to old track — more than double what they spent a decade ago. What’s going on? Does this reflect a booming economy? Not really, although the shale/oil gas revolution clearly is helping.
Eighteen-year-olds can run for public office, vote, serve in the military and get married. So, the lower-drinking-age question has to be considered in the context of all those other decisions," Jordan said. "My concern and that of many of the other presidents who signed the initiative is that we aren't doing our students a favor by avoiding this. Saying that keeping the minimum age at 21 is reducing highway deaths is ignoring the bigger problem." Dr. George
Why High School Graduates Should Take a Year Off Before Going to College I believe that after graduating high school it is helpful in many ways to take a year off before you decide to enter college. Nothing is better for a person than to be able to live a year with a fresh and open mind for what they want to do for the rest of their life. This is a year to be able to consider all the options, find stability in their life and with their financials, and they would be way more motivated to go back to school or even have better luck getting into a school. A year to be able to consider all the options in life could be very useful for indecisive people. If you are not positive on exactly what you want to do in life yet a year is more than enough to research jobs.
