United States citizens get their license at the age of sixteen and at the age of twenty-one, it is legal to drink. Most of the time, when those two combine, it causes car crashes that result in death or chronic injuries. In the state of Ohio, citizens are under the age of twenty-one, they are eligible to operate a vehicle with 0.02% of alcohol in their blood. If they are over twenty-one, it is legal to drive with less than 0.08% of alcohol in their blood. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, drunk driving related deaths “...rose from 318 in 2013, to 338 in 2014, to 365 in 2015. That is a 14.8% increase from 2013 to 2015 and an 8% increase from 2014 to 2015.” In Ohio, 35% of the fatal crashes were caused by alcohol. In order to reduce the amount of deaths caused by alcohol, we need to support the bill that will reduce the blood alcohol concentration to 0.05%. If Ohio officials don’t focus on this bill, many people's lives will be impacted negatively. Having the blood-alcohol level at 0.08% provides a higher chance of people getting injured or possibly even death. This is an issue that affects everyone, from rookie drivers, to experienced drivers. In 2015, it was found that male drivers were involved in 54.8% in alcohol-related crashes, while females were involved in 42.4% of the fatal crashes. In research from WalletHub, shows that the state of Ohio was one of the most lenient states when it came to laws about drinking and driving. Every person that is on the road, driver or passengers, are all affected by this issue. It is the matter of life or death. Many people are concerned about this issue because they are not safe.
