Student Mr. Tangney MED 261 02 NOV 2011 ADHD AFFECTS MORE THAN THOSE DIAGNOSED: Despite numerous reports of teens abusing Adderall or Ritalin to get a “high” or the media slandering doctors that are wrongfully prescribing drugs to those with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) symptoms, the fact remains that ADHD is a recognized mental disorder and millions have sought treatment worldwide. There are upwards of six million reports in the United States of those diagnosed and receiving medical treatment for the decease (WebMD). ADHD is a decease that affects the central nervous systems (CNS). ADHD can be treated by stimulating the cerebral cortex and increase the activity of natural occurring norepinephine, dopamine, and cholamine at the CNS synapses (MedicineNet). These increased contact of nerve cells leads to many effects described as self-confidence, well-being, and euphoria; all of which are vital in everyday wellness (MedicineNet). The most common adverse effects are headaches, insomnia, a decreased appetite, some weight loss, and trouble falling asleep. These listed adversities can be diminished over time and recognizing the correct dosages. One must remember to weigh out the positive effects verses the adverse effects of any medication. When determining one’s quality of life, a small pill once a day is a simple, yet effective treatment for ADHD (myADHD). In closing, let’s examine a story of young boy (Author Unknown) who has been diagnosed and medically treated for his ADHD. The boy has written a letter to his parents after he final sees life as those not affected with ADHD. The boy shows a touching, positive flip from the ever so slanted view.
