Persuasive Essay:International Sports For School

GIS celebrates another successful outing in the Fobissea Games when our champions beat other schools in the South East Asia in several events. As a participant I am delighted in our success but the question is “how much longer can I participate in international events like these?” Unfortunately, the high cost of transport and long travel time taken to international destinations are prohibitive and I know I can’t afford either^. One might argue that money should not be an issue but sadly, it is^. Every time a GIS sports team goes to an international meet, the average spent by the parents of each child is approximately RM300 for travel, lodging, food and miscellaneous. While this amount may seem small, consider the fact that the average athlete plays 3 to 5 events a year - this sum increases to RM1500 and THAT is a lot of money! It’s not surprising then that players and participants choose only prestigious events over smaller ones. Another reason for not attending international events is time. Many regional meets take place over the weekend but the major ones take up the better part of the week. Students lose time in class for coursework and miss lessons. Catching up is no easy feat! How often have we felt that the homework load in this school is phenomenally high? How often have we sat for assessments and tests ill-prepared because of events or coursework obligations? Too often I say! Thus, what are the solutions? International events are a great opportunity but so are local or regional events. Imagine how much better it would be if we could compete among local schools which definitely make up a wider pool of talent. Not only do we compete with the state and national champions but we would be able to learn from them. Also, we wouldn’t have to select or compete among each other to go to international events. An added benefit to local competition
