This essay will be discussing the idea of ‘if the personalized induction is always more effective’ by basing information on theoretical concepts and the techniques. The essay will look and discuss the two main techniques while taking about the personalized induction; the permissive technique will be discussed using the work of Erickson alongside with permissive technique there will be a concentration on the use of authoritarian screeds through the work of Hull and Freud, both Hull and Freud were known as more traditional hypnotherapists. Alongside with the two techniques there will be some concentration on the modality. Although when looked at its obvious that all humans are quite similar however each individual is unique and different in many ways (Scarr, S 2008). Even twins have differences between them (Baker, A & Daniels, D. 1990), however alike they seem. These differences are due to many factors such as different cultural backgrounds and been brought up in environment that have provided us with different outlooks, values and perspectives alongside with different likes and dislikes. Everyone has different likes and dislikes and different ways of looking at things (Heap, M & Dryden, W. 1991). These differences are what make us all unique because of these differences people have different ways of dealing with certain situations, different coping mechanisms and various levels of openness or resistance. It is due to these differences that require a hypnotherapist to take these variables into consideration when devising a therapy strategy and selecting the techniques to be used for the individual so as to achieve the best result from the therapy when working with the subconscious mind (Chrysalis,. 2012). The screeds in the inductions is to include as many likes as possible while trying to reduce the dislikes where possible, no dislikes. Another way of personalizing the scripts of clients is permissive and authoritarian these are two general recognized style of hypnotic induction. The traditional hypnotherapists like Hull and Freud had numerous failing with clients using the authoritative style however this does not mean that it does not altogether work. The common thing that both Hull and Freud had in the methods was that they used the same style on all the clients. Both Hull and Freud did not make any effort to personalize the induction to suit each of the clients however the hypnotherapist Erickson was more successful with in his therapy the reason for it was because the permissive style was a much more gentle approach and took into consideration the clients wants and needs and Erickson was quite aware of the individual differences of his clients and showed importance to building rapport with them so he received much more of a response and co-operation from the clients. The permissive style is nurturing and provides an internal environment of choice but safety. The words that are leaving to clients chose is used for example ‘you may like to close your eyes’.
