Personality and team effectiveness According to Huczynski and Buchanan (2007) a personality profile contains five key characteristics: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and negative emotionality which affect team effectiveness. The main advocates of this approach are Paul Costa and Robert McRea. Each characteristic, which has two sides, shows something about how you react in different situations. However, you cannot say which side of a characteristic is best. You have to see it in relation to other things. My personality and motivation profile were created by analyzing two questionnaires, which I filled out previously. In this report I will compare my personal properties with various dimensions and on this basis I will see how my personality will affect teamwork (the strengths as well as weaknesses) My personality profile shows my score of the five key characteristics. On extraversion I scored very high, on openness I scored quite low, and on the other three characteristics - negative emotionality, agreeableness and conscientiousness - I scored average. (See appendix A for the results.) Extraversion is my dominant trait, which means that I am an extravert person, who can be described as a “social, optimistic, assertive (dominant) and warm person”. (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007) My openness is quite low, which means I am “practical, conservative, efficient and expert”. (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007) The way extraversion, which is my strongest trait, affects my team effectiveness depends on a few properties. The two main properties of an extravert person are dominance and social perceptiveness. According to Norton (1983) dominance contains the following three components: forcefulness, monopolizing, and involvement.
