It’s cause they want to become something that shows pride and honor, an American. Along with the name come a number of different benefits such as freedom of speech to express your own opinion, freedom of religion and equality for all, including different sexes, races, religions and status. Being an American means much more than living in the United States. I am very proud of my privileges as an American because many other countries are not fortunate enough to have all these freedoms. Our freedoms are what set American’s apart from other countries.
Can there be one without the other? 2 . Buying a car: Pam Head, the Massachusetts native, tells a story of living in Oklahoma, where people did not understand her pronunciation of the word car as “cah.” If Head had remained in Oklahoma, do you think she would have continued to use her Massachusetts pronunciation? If you have ever moved from one dialect region to another, did you notice yourself changing your pronunciation? If so, why?
The ethnic grouping that are around are Muslims, Buddhism, Christianity, and Jehovah’s Witnesses as well as others that I do not know of. 5. Why do people label and group other people? There are a lot of reasons as to why people label and group other people. For starters people have a tendency to label anything that is different from what they are not used to.
When you think about America, you probably think of justice, freedom, bravery, perseverance, equality, and blessings. These qualities make America unique. America has also shown many other good qualities such as respect, responsibility, and trust. For example, our country has demonstrated bravery by sending out armies to protect us. We have even sent out armies to other countries who can’t defend themselves.
Many different people define America in many different ways; there are not two groups of individuals from around the world that would define America in the same way. In my opinion, America can best be defined as a country founded on ideals, opportunity, and ethnic diversity. The majorities of individuals that live in America do share a sense of opportunity, and do desire to make their lives the best that they can be. Some hope for a two-story house on the beach, while others hope for a good education and a healthy family. The America Dream is considered American for the reason that it deals with specific principles, prosperity, and personal liberty.
What does it mean to have a truly ‘American’ culture? The United States is and always will be a country comprised of citizens with cultural ties to other countries. After all, aside from Native Americans, every citizen should be able to trace their lineage back to another country from which an ancestor immigrated. So how does one identify himself as an American? More importantly, is there such thing as ‘American’ culture?
Americas are very patriotic people. A lot of people take pride in being from the United States of America, because we have so much freedom. Believing in your natural rights, having pride in your country, and rightfully knowing all your rights and understanding them. Being an American is not just living in the country, but being able to love it, contribute to it and willing to call yourself an American. Being able to be proud of the country that your from is great, but being able to understand the constitution and the bill of rights is even better.
Who’s American? Before reading the article Whose American?, My theory of who was American was the people that were born here and believed in the American values of equality for all. I had no issues with immigrants, as long as they chose to embrace the American beliefs and cultural, you can’t move to America for opportunity and not be willing to comprise so of you cultural and beliefs. Speaking the American language and fighting to succeed and overcome hardships, while helping others also achieve the same is American. The United States were built on innovation and many culturals bringing their experiences to the table for a common front of suceeeding.
I talked to my parents (for as long as I could stand) about their view on what it means to be an American, and they put most emphasis on the fact that being an American means we have rights available to us like nowhere else in the world. The United States of America is a country that is based on the fact that it’s citizens have more freedom than anywhere else. But “freedom” is as broad of a term as “American”, and we use the word a lot
Being an American If you ask people who an American is, most of them would state that an American would be a person living on the American continent.Which, of course, is true. A person born in America but somehow ended up living somewhere else is an American.Which is also true. Basically, anyone with American citizenship is considered to be an American. At least that is what the Government claims. But what is it that defines the Americans?
