Availability and freshness of food and herbs determined how long the shopping trip would be. She, along with help from her husband, prepared items such as herbs and onions, all week in order to be ready for her big meal on the weekend. Even though the mother prepared many dishes to serve a lot people, she prepared only the best. Mother appeared to be resentful to be constantly cooking; she didn’t do any less from week to week. All in all it appeared that she thrived on the compliments and wishes she received for her efforts.
My mom looks at the ingredients in whatever she is going to but before she buys it. Even though we do have a lot of food at our house , most of it isn’t pre-prepared. My mom cooks dinner for us just about every night, but we do have a lot of microwavable foods that I eat. I think that it would possible to eat healthier, but my little brother my dad eat the most junk food and drink the most soda. In order to be healthier, we can get rid things like Rockstar, and buy less soda.
I know for a fact that some men out there are the only ones that cook in their home. At my house, my dad does all the cooking because my mom is always working really late. This past Christmas my mom had to work all day, so my dad, my brother and I cooked a really nice dinner. We slow-cooked a good sized big turkey, made mashed potatoes, stuffing, and all the good things that go with holiday meals. We had the table set up the right way before the food was cooking on the stove and in the oven.
My sister was working, which meant it was only my niece and I alone at the house. A note was left on the counter that read ‘you guys need to do laundry and wash the dishes if you think you’re going anywhere tonight. Also, if you take the car, put gas in it. Love, Cinda.’ With that being said, we did some chores so that we could go out for the day, like we planned. We decided to make a huge breakfast and dance around the house with the music blasting, having a great time.
One of the reasons we should serve turkey is because a lot of turkey is made every thanksgiving and letting it go to waste would be a sin itself. If you won’t eat it, someone else will. Another reason to eat turkey on Thanksgiving is because it is simply a tradition, maybe not to all, but to my family it is; and it isn’t thanks giving without it. The third and final reason we should be allowed to eat turkey on Thanksgiving
Our family is all dressed up, and I can smell the evening’s food rooms away and hear the ending sounds of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade on the TV downstairs. We seem like a classic, cookie-cutter family. And then the holiday really begins. My grandma is usually the first to arrive, complete with her leopard-print duffle bag she carried everywhere with her. After her I hear the front door open again and know that, from this point on, the house won’t have another moment of silence.
Some families like to bake specific things like a passed down family recipe of a sweat potato dish or like the Williams family, a big bowl of homemade mac and cheese and cornbread stuffing. Grace is the grandmother in the Williams family, and she is a typical grandmother. For example, watching over Audrey, her daughter in law, cook and have lots to say about it. Grace notices that Audrey is not making a bowl of mac and cheese and she is not too thrilled about it. Grace acts this way because she clearly wants to keep her tradition going.
His aunt calls him down to dinner in a loud abrupt voice. Terry quickly ran downstairs and got ready for supper. While he was eating, his food did not taste different. They own 85 acres of river, waterfalls and trees, an absolutely gorgeous place to reside and retire. So many different shades of trees, flowers animals, basically your stereotypical Disney channel movie house in the woods. My grandma is famous for her cooking, like all good grandmothers should be, with your traditional 10 lb turkey, stuffing, potatoes, the thanksgiving works was waiting for us on the table when we showed up. Nothing beats that first step of walking into the house and being emerged into the warm aroma and smells that over power any other senses at the time. We helped set up the table with fancy china and silver utensils and all sat down at the large oak table.
By the time every one gets to Grandma’s house, the house is already filling up with fabulous smells of pie, meat, and other wonderful foods and to top it off the smell of fresh cut grass blowing in for the opened windows throughout the house. Each family member prepares and brings a traditionally favored recipe. My grandma is always in charge of making the best pies in the world, especially cherry pie which happens to be my favorite. She also prepares the hot rolls, cheesy potatoes and famous deviled eggs. My aunts’ are normally responsible for bringing the green beans, cheese dip and potato salad and whatever else they fell like bring.
