Some of the stage one exploring skills include; Open ended questioning, silences, focusing, empathy, paraphrasing, structuring and summarising. Stage two is about Helping the client Establish Aims and Goals.The primary purpose being to facilitate the client in developing an objective understanding of their situation. Here the helper/listener assists the client/speaker explore their options and possible goals. By establishing what the client/speaker really wants and needs they are then encouraged to consider new perspectives and possibilities auctioning those that are realistic. By assisting the client/speaker to develop rational decision making process they can then go on to make decisions and deal with situations themselves as they arise.
My Personal Approach to Learning Essay Evola Dawson Dr. Winchester, English Professor English 1013: Freshman English II Learning is imperative to life and in order for it to be effective, it must be affective. There are many ways that one can approach learning. My personal approaches to learning are practical examples, hands on, and open discussion. These are three ways that I have proven to be effective in my life as it pertains to learning. Practical examples are things that I can relate to that give me a clear picture of what is being taught.
The bottom line in this kind of assessment is to find out if the client would respond to more of an authoritarian approach or a gentle passive approach. There are other incites that are learned about the client here which help determine what kind of language it to be used wether that be colorful, flamboyant, descriptive, thought provoking and so on. Combinations of different choices of words and language are decided on the scoring system effectively tailoring the session for the individuals personality. I would agree that these steps are valuable in gaining the insite you need before venturing into a therapeutic session with a client. If PMR was attempted without any kind of background research on the client the outcome would most likely be unsuccessful or contrived.
The theoretical orientation that is a foundation for this writer is the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. This writer will discuss Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy as her primary approach in terms of techniques, goals, therapist/client relationships and concepts. Other concepts, such as Carl Roger’s Person Centered Therapy will be blended into this writer’s orientation. If used properly the goal of the therapist will communicate in such a way for client personality change to occur. Over time and treatment the clinician would have an unconditional positive regard for the client. Thus far, building a respect for the client and their concerns should be the center focus of the clinician. The therapist encourages the client to use self exploration and acceptance, and openness to self and others by giving clarification of what the client is saying and reflecting on the feelings of the client. The client will learn to show empathy and warmth toward him self and anyone involved.
Personal Model of Helping Akia Forward BSHS/311 December 6, 2012 Gerry MC Farland Personal Model of Helping To make a difference as a Clinician, one must create a personal model of helping. Doing research and understanding the material available is an important part of developing a model of helping that will do some good. My personal model of helping will include parts of two Cognitive Child Development theories, Three Behavioral Child Development theories, Erik Erikson’s Theory of Personality Development, Lawrence Kohlberg’s Theory on Child Development, Alfred Adler’s theory and practices, Strategic therapy, Experiential Family therapy, and a Faith-Based Therapeutic therapy. I will also explain why I chose each theory, advantages and disadvantages of each theory, multicultural ramifications, positives and negatives of my model, and the people my model can help. The two models of helping I will start with are Jean Piaget’s Cognitive Child Development Theory and Lev Vygotsky’s Social Development Theory.
Summary of Self-Assessment Once I completed the self-assessment, I learned that my strongest style is Selling/Coaching. With looking at my results, I would have thought my strongest would have been Telling (Directing). According to the assessment that was completed, my leadership skills are best used in conditions where my time is spent listening to the followers in giving advice when necessary (Hersey and Blanchard, n.d.). Within my finding, I found it to be a truthful person so that my gifts and talents will show to those around me. As I stated in the past to other, that an open line of communication is great when you are put in the role of leadership.

The goals that were talked about in earlier sessions are beginning to be embraced by the client, who is questioning the counsellor more, in an effort to start the changes. Words like “so when are we goal setting please?” And “I really feel you’re helping me see the light” are also affirming statements. Along with this, the client’s appearance may have changed, as may their facial expressions. The positive-ness with which they are starting the sessions also are a dead giveaway. The client may also come to the sessions having drawn up their own plans for progressing.
