This is the template for a successful, trained work force. These values will guide individuals during the decision-making processes that they will encounter. These values will help to ensure the integrity of the company and the individual, as well. Our Marine Corps today is no different. We can find our values and creeds everywhere we turn. One quick trip to a company or battalion headquarters will yield all the information a Marine ever needs to assist them in making ethical choices. Units will prominently display the Non-Commissioned Officers Creed in the common areas in most cases. These values are what we expect our Marines to live by. Nature of Dilemma You can learn from failure, but you cannot learn from success. What you think is right can come with a cost, and unfortunately one of my Marines had to learn that price the hard way. In the Marine Corps we talk about drinking responsibly and driving responsibly, and if you drink, you do not get behind the wheel of your vehicle. We tell our Marines to have an alternate plan – either have enough money for a cab, or call someone they trust. Well one of my Marines thought he could just do that – get behind the wheel of his vehicle and drive back to the base. Unfortunately, he was pulled over about three miles down the road. I received a phone call around 0230 from my Marine saying he needed a ride because he couldn’t drive his vehicle. I was impressed and asked where he was, but he couldn’t remember and asked me to hold on. An officer then got on the phone and
