Effective Communication Paper Communication promotes knowledge within a health care organization and is necessary for the organization to thrive. Communication is not only important to the staff but also to the patients within a health care facility who depend on staff communication to receive quality medical care. Without complete communication between staff member’s clinical errors can occur and the patient’s health could be at risk. In this paper the subject will explain how a health care organization shares knowledge through communication and examine, which are the most effective techniques and which techniques are ineffective. This paper will review the application of these techniques and the impact techniques may have on a health care organization.
Communication incorporates the basic elements of communication; meaning there are so many cultural differences, personalities, languages, beliefs, values, morals, and behavior. This is why establishing positive communication along with understanding cultural differences will allow professionals to understand the patient while focusing on his or her need of care. Communication in the health care industry starts the minute a physician meets with the patient on the very first visit or with the receptionist the minute a patient walks in the health facility. When communication is established it should be maintained at all times and on all levels whether it is verbal or non-verbal. Effective Communication takes place through direct communication, voice messages, e-mailing, filling prescriptions, phone calls, memos, letters, and making appointments.
These concepts would be leadership, putting the patient first, communication and improvement. An organizations leadership should be trustworthy and be readily available when their staff comes to them with any concerns or issues they have with the facility. This concept also coincides with putting patients first. The staff should make it there top priority to understand their patients need. A patient safety and satisfaction should be the staff main focus.
The purposes of electronic medical records are for assisting professionals in the healthcare to store and share patient information across disciplines as well as across facilities. Electronic Medical Records are used by “professionals including different levels of providers because they can be assessed from different locations simultaneously, diagnostic images can be viewed from various locations allowing for continuous of care use electronic Medical Records in the health care systems. Electronically stored client records provide quick access to clinical data for a large number of clients and it has prompts to ensure that key information is noted as well as reminders of when labs and vaccines are needed.” (Hebda & Czar, 2013, p. 28). Communication Opinion HCS/320 Communication is a very important skill for every human to have, even more important when that communication involves your health. Which is why it is so vital for a physician or any other health care employee to have good and effective communication skills. In order to fully assist a patient the communication between the physician and patient should have a shared understanding. Without this very important tool in the health care field, the industry would do horrible. So in order for personnel in the health care field to have effective communication they have to follow a few basic elements and rules.
Effective communication and interpersonal interaction between individuals is important in all situations in society, such as in health and social care settings such as hospitals, nurseries and care homes. Both theories of communication can be taken across into health and social care settings to help communication and interpersonal interaction between health and social care professionals and service users be as effective and as possible. The first theory I will be talking about is the communication cycle which i discussed in P2. The communication cycle is a type of code that requires you figuring out what the other person is trying to say and what their behaviour means. This theory would allow service users and health care professionals to communicate more easily and effectively.
There are so many things that the Medical Law and Ethics course has covered that pertains to the healthcare field. This includes situations that have to do with patients, healthcare workers, laws & procedures, and patient confidentiality, which I will now tell about briefly. The Medical Law and Ethics course has covered many situations pertaining to the relationships between healthcare workers and patients. Healthcare workers must make sure that a patient understands any procedures that they may be given, and they must have the patient’s consent to give the procedure. If the consent is not given by a patient the practice, physician, or the healthcare worker can be held liable in a lawsuit.
