Percy Jackson and the Olympians The Lightning Thief Percy Jackson and the Olympians the Lightning Thief is a fantastic book written by Rick Riordan. It was published on April 1, 2006 by Hyperion Book. It contains 400 pages and is a fantasy-adventure novel. I chose to read The Lightning Thief for my book report/review because it contains facts about Greek mythology, it holds a number of action scenes, and it was written so well that I felt like I was part of the story. The story begins when Percy Jackson discovers that his father is Poseidon which makes him a demi-god. Zeus’ lightning bolt was stolen and making Percy the suspect. If it is not returned by the summer solstice, there will be a great war in Olympia. He is now caught in between the battles of gods in Mt. Olympus. He and his friends must embark on an adventure taking them across the country to catch the true lightning thief, help the gods, and reveal a powerful secret about the gods themselves. Will Percy and his friends find the truth or will there be a great war than any war before? The major characters are Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, Grover Underwood, Luke Castellan, and the gods. Percy is a twelve year old boy whose father is Poseidon making him a demi-god. He is the one who finds Zeus’ lightning bolt and returns it. He is also the narrator which makes the story a first person point of view. Annabeth and Grover are Percy’s friends, they go with him to the adventure. Annabeth is a twelve year old girl whose mother is Athena making her a demi-god also. Grover is a satyr. Initially, he was under cover as a boy to look for other demi-gods. That’s how he and Percy met. Luke is a son of Hermes and a demi-god. He soon betrays Percy and leaves him for dead. The gods that take place are Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hermes, Athena, and more. The tone of this story is comedic. It made me laugh; some parts
