The teachers unknowing pass the ideas that they learned as a child onto their students, who also do not realize that it is being done to them. <br> Peggy Orenstein very effectively tackles the question "are boys and girls treated differently in school?" (Italicized paragraphs 7). She concluded from her field studies in junior high schools that the teacher sometimes treats boys and girls differently in the classroom. She also admits that boys and girls do have many differences, which cause them to behave differently.
Landon Stewart Mrs. Luker Government A4 10/23/12 Cons of School Uniforms There are many schools in the U.S. that require their students to wear uniforms, and there are more that don't. I believe that school uniforms should not be required for a few reasons. Uniforms take away from a person's individual identity and freedom to express himself or herself. They can be costly to people depending on a family’s financial status. School uniforms can also be a very uncomfortable fashion that students would not take a liking to.
We are first introduced to Candy when George and Lennie arrive at the ranch. George is unsure what to make of Candy as he ‘worked up a slow anger’ based purely on suspicion and distrust. However, we see that the
“Dumbing Down” America The one thing you were always pushed and told to do when you were in school was to get an education, so you can get a good job and be successful. You need an education to get anywhere in the world. Schools in America were regarded as the best schools in the world up to the 1970's. Today, compared to the development of Asian and European schools, American schools are ranked as some of the lowest schools. Some students are graduating from high school with little or more knowledge about the core classes, some people that graduate they say are illiterate.
The obsession of the color pink, the non-athletic abilities, and the simple things like how women walk or hold their books. In Chapter 9 of To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee also approaches the stereotypical expectations of females. "I could not possibly hope to be a lady if I wore breeches; when I said I could do nothing in a dress, she said I wasn’t supposed to be doing things that required pants. "(Lee 81). Aunt Alexandra was horrified with the fact that Scout did not live up to the standards society had of women.
Mindsets In the nonfictional book, “Mindset” written by Carol S. Dweck, she mentions that students get fixed mindsets. There are many ways to cause a student to have one because students may tend to take what parents, teachers, etc… say seriously. She also says that most students get their mindsets from the transaction to a junior high. Students with a fixed mindset will always have bad grades, and the fact that they will always try to blame someone else. A student’s mindset comes from negative labeling from parents or teachers, or stereotypes based on race and class.
The initial public schools to require uniforms were boarding schools, but many private and state day schools also began requiring uniforms. The social revolution of the 1960s ended much of the English obsession with school uniforms. There had been schoolboy rebellions against uniform in the past. World War II had ended some of the more expensive or ludicrous uniform items, but it was the widespread youth revolt of the late-1960s that had the greatest impact. In most schools, uniform remained, though modified in the direction of informality.
Also there was countless number of bullying reports because of clothing. The students who could not afford nice clothes were usually picked on and taunted. It started to get so out of hand that parents started pulling their kids out of Augusta and transferring them to another school. So to prevent bullying problems and students from wearing irrelevant clothing the school established a new dress code policy where students were required to wear uniforms. This new policy helped reduce the amount of bullying throughout the school and also made the school look more professional.
They tried so hard to move away from me I was afraid one of them was going to fall over. So I leaned in and asked the lady “ What kind of candy are you having today?” She looked at me and said “Don’t talk to me weirdo.” I thought wow! People are really as rude as I thought they could be now if I was dressed in my normal tee shirt and jeans I bet no one would have said a word or even looked at me
There is a great diversity of opinion among people on whether or not schools should force students to wear uniform recently. Some say that wearing uniform gets rid of students’ creativity or that the coercive measure is not good for their emotions. However, despite this dissent, I think wearing uniform is good for several reasons. First, wearing uniform can get rid of discrimination among students. There are big differences in economic circumstances of each student’s family.
