Tuesday 29th July 1952: Introducing Me... My Name is Peeta Naidoo and I am a young 13 year old boy. I belong to the black Bantu tribe of Soweto and live with my Ma, Pappa, Brother “Zuku”, and Sister “Izzy” and, my Grandma “Chi-chi” as I call her. The circumstances we live in are currently very bad! We all live in one, big room, which used to be an old, Garage. I go to St. Teresa High School (A mission school) and really, enjoy studying there I really love studying English, Math and Geography. I am a curious boy, and unlike my friends “Agola” and “Tutu”, I love to learn about many, different things. For example how the sun rises, why 7+4=11 and most importantly why I was born Black. Although, I am eager to get one of my questions answered, “How have the Laws the Government has passed, affected the Black child population in terms of getting the impartial and fair education they have a right to?” Wednesday, 16th April 1953: Dear Diary, Today was such a bad day, yesterday in Assembly “Father Popa”, our headmaster announced that there was going to be a new system being enforced in our school (due to the new law passed by the government it was called “The Bantu Education Act, 1953) the next day. I just thought, it would be a minor adjustment, my friends and I thought there must be a timetable shift or something negligible. Although, today when I arrived at my school we saw how great this alteration was. Firstly, it looked very overcrowded, and when I saw clearly, it seemed that half the people in our school were not from our school the previous day, all these students were new. Then another thing that really, bugged me was because there was not enough room for all of us to study at once we had to share classes, and trust me that was not cool!
