The Tripitaka is a very significant text for adherents of Buddhism as it can as a guide to the teachings of the Buddha. The first basket, the Sutra Pitaka sets the rules and expectations of the Sangha. First of all Sawyer clearly uses a proper format for the essay he does not jump around with arguments instead he keeps a nice flow. He starts off with a personal experience which catches a reader’s attention. There is always a possibility that someone might relate to it and find the essay worth reading. It also gives a reason to why is the author writing this essay. Sawyer then flawlessly states a few facts about the safety and the United States amendments to introduce his argument.
Gabriela Rivera Eng 101 Marino May 3, 2012 Cultural Intellectualism In the essay “Superman and Me”, Sherman Alexie writes of his education that “I read with equal parts joy and desperation. I loved those books, but I also knew that love had only one purpose. I was trying to save my life”(2). In other words Alexie feels that reading was his key to a better and more successful life. Reading is the foundation of Alexie’s strength to battle against a non- intellectual life.
For example, clients being able to focus on how deep their breaths are becoming can further aid the relaxation process. Clients become increasingly aware of their breathing rate, which slows down significantly as they become more and more relaxed. Furthermore, the hypnotist’s voice is vital as it can produce a trance state. The voice ideally should be soothing and monotone so that the client doesn’t focus on your voice but what we are trying to achieve. Similarly, the environment that your client is in is paramount to their relaxation process requiring a quiet room with no distractions is ideal.
Religion is being able to connect to the founder or worshipper in a physical, emotional, and spiritual manner. It answers your question to life after death, and to know your purpose in life. Throughout class discussions I realized most religions have a reward for your behavior in life. Throughout good actions you become at peace with yourself. For example in Buddhism the ultimate goal is nirvana.
It is very pleasant to read that the authors emphases the role of language in our interaction with others. Rosenberg's philosophy explains how we should communicate with others in a compassionate and nonviolent way. I agree with the author that language and it deficiencies can also be a source of conflict among individuals. On the other hand language also helps to resolve problems and create an environment of growth and nourishment. Mahatma Gandhi is the great example of man who lived the ideals of nonviolence through out his life.
